It should not be index.html but simply index nothing more. GO back and "save as" your home page and republish. Do not add anything to it, it will add the extention itself once you publish. Note if you have any forms on the page you will have to go into the page propertie and chane the file type to php then publish, then when you link the address will include the php extention not html.
