    Default Navigation

I was wondering if there was a way to add some sort of navigation that would update on all your pages if you changed it, instead of you having to republish each one.

If you want to see the page/navigation bar I am talking about here is my website:
    http://www.socks198915.com/

It’s just a little fan site for another website.

You can search the forum for a menu site that NavalDesign gave a tutorial on. It teaches you how to create a menu page, and once created and placed on each page of your site you make changes to the original page and it takes care of the rest. It was a couple of months ago but I can't remember what the name of the thread was. Good luck

Ok so I was sent this tutorial on “How to create a download”. I learned how to upload things into my file manager.

    First try:
    http://www.socks198915.com/1075.gif

That one seemed to work ok, but this one doesn’t seem to work:
    http://www.socks198915.com/menu.bvp

I am trying to get this menu to show up on all of my pages:
    http://www.socks198915.com/test/

So when I update the navigation I don’t have to re-publish all 20 of my pages.

Also once you upload something into your file manager, how do you get it onto your web page?

Thanks for any help in advance :)

One of the easiest ways to have the same menu bar on every page of your site is to place the menu bar on a blue voda page and save it as template. The for every page you make, begin by opening template, add the content relevant to that page and save it with it's new name. Your template page will stay as a template to begin each page with.

You can upload items to your file manger via ftp, however, until you place these items on a webpage and actually publish the web page via the publishing method in your blue voda web builder, you will not have a web page.

.bvp is the file extension given to a page that you build with your blue voda webbuilder, it is not an extension given to anything published or that should be published. It is the unique file that once published the extension of that file becomes .html. So if you are trying to retrieve a file that you published in your site builder, retrieve it via http://www.yourdomainname.com/nameofpage.html

You should review the tutorials in regards to publishing your pages built with blue voda. Please feel free to read my tips located in my signature which will also guide you through these stages.

Thank you very much. I can now use I-frames to put my menu bar on different pages :P

I am having a bit of trouble with the transparency though.

    http://www.socks198915.com/adoptions/

It seems to be covering up the main part of the page.

The tutorial I used is here:

May I suggest you use the php method that Lady Eye gave the url for instead of the iframe method - it is much more search engine friendly :)

    You'll find it here: http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/blu...ge-bv-php.html

I tried, but again it didn't work.

" Save the page as “menu” and publish it."

So we don't save it as index?

"Repeat exactly the step 3 operations, for this page."

What do we call the page we want the menu on? index?

    One of my sad attempts:

    http://www.socks198915.com/menu/

Thanks for all the help. I really need to be able to do this somehow, but nothing seems to be working....

Your Index page will be always "index". The "menu" page is simply the menu that will appear in ALL your pages.

Your attempt (menu.php) is correct. In fact, the page itself, will only display a blank screen and nothing more.
But when it is being called from within another page, as function, it will display whatever you have in it : a menu bar, a header, whatever you have inthere.

To do so, follow the steps as per tutorial: create the "index" (or whaever else) page, without the menu, and use a html box to call the "menu" function as per tutorial. This will result in obtaining a page that will be the combination of the two: the main page (f.e. index) and the menu page.

Does the HTML box have to 'exacally' the same size as you navigation bar?

    Menu page:
    http://www.socks198915.com/menu/

Attemted page to get menu bar up:
    http://www.socks198915.com/test/

I made the page ex. php, but it won't publish what I have. It says 'page successfully published', but even if I add somthing to the page it won't show up. I also tried it in HTML and is will post everything, but the menubar.

As said above: the page "menu.php" when visited directly, will only result in a blank screen. When called through the page "test.php" will appear as menu bar.

However, here your problem is another: your page, http://www.socks198915.com/test/index.php

correctly shows he file "menu.php" as missing, and that's because you have published the two pages (menu and index) in two different folders

Both files need to be in the same folder, or else the path to the included file should be changed, and that, without some experience, would complicate your life.

The html box doesn't need to be excactly the same size, but making it so, will help you with the visual arrangement of the pages.

"Both files need to be in the same folder"

I take it that's in my computer? If so how do you save multiple index pages then? Can you make them in sub folders?

    http://www.socks198915.com/test/

I tried to fix it by saving the page in the same folder.

No, i mean on your site. If the calling page is in "public_html" the "menu.php! also needs to be in public_html. If the calling page is in a subfolder of your site, then the menu.php needs to be published there too. For example, for the index page in your "test" folder, to work properly, you need to publish the menu.php in the test folder also.

To be true, it would be possible to publish menu.php in just one folder, public_html, and call it even from subfolders. In that case the calling code should be modified as:

include ("/home/username/public_html/menu.php") . Since his is rather complicated for he average user, the simplest soluion is to publish the "menu.php" in subfilders also.

    so close....

I have got the places for the images

    http://www.socks198915.com/test/

    I am using the code

    <?php
    include ("/home/myusername/public_html/menu/menu.php");
    menu();
    ?>

so I get that it is looking for public_html, then menu then the file menu php. Which is ther, but the images are stored in different files then the php file.

    http://www.socks198915.com/yurble/

If I publish it in the sub folders, will I have to re publish it in each sub folder again after I change it?

I must thank you very much for all this help. This is beyond me and I have 0 experence with these things.

Then you need to define the images path just like you defined the path to the file menu.php. This is something you need to do in your BV menu page. If i.e. the image is in the folder yurble the path to the images must be /home/username/public_html/yurble/imagefilename.jpg.
However, i don't understand this: if you are publishing the menu page in the folder "menu", the images are supposed to be there also. How comes they are in a different folder ?

If I publish it in the sub folders, will I have to re publish it in each sub folder again after I change it?
    Yes.

Sorry, my mistake. The images are supposed to be in the same folder of the main page, in this case in the "test" folder. Or, define the path to the images as described above.

So I have now gotten the images working :P I don't know how to call up the 'menu bar' there (It's the one adove 'go menu' and below navigation in bv). I am not sure what one is the file.

    Test page:
    http://www.socks198915.com/test/

It should have the images, but not the menu and a little red x.

    Menu page:
    http://www.socks198915.com/menu/

Screenies of menu folder, problems etc...
    http://www.socks198915.com/yurble/

If I can just get that put up, then I will only have one page to publish every time I change it :P

I tried going to the object HTML and copied that into a HTML box thing, but it didn't work XD
