I was just wondering how to set up a members area on my site. My site isn't live yet, still building but the domain is dcsuccess.com. Any help would be helpful.

Hi, it depends a little bit on what you want your members to be able to do. If its just for members that only want to chat? You could set up a forum & give access to certain forums to private members only. It you want then to have access to your web pages & a whole area of your site, then a script would be the best way. The link you provided goes to a 404 error page.

I would want members to have access to members only pages, no chatting. I got the same problem error message with the link. Do you know of anywhere else to get this script? Oh unrelated, do you have any idea how to put an ebook online? Do I need a certain program or something? Thanks for the reply.

I want to have access in my site just for the members.The people who aren't member wouldn't have access to my site.how can I do that?

You can use a password protected directory on your public_html. This would mean that right as the page loads when they go to www.yoursite.com, it will prompt them for a username and password. Or you can just password protect a certain directory on your website www.yoursite.com/memberarea... and whenever they try to go to the memberarea, it will prompt for a username/password.

And as collectors-info has mentioned, you can get a script. This will allow you to have a much more advanced and feature filled membership system, but requires all of your pages to .php (or whatever scripting language filetype), and you will have to add some code to each individual page.

I have a similar question that pertains to tracking members progress on their own subdomain.

1. I am about to create a subdomain for members to sign up with me for business offers and incentives. Would it be possible to create a subdomain page for my members within a subdomain...if that makes any sense?

2. Will it be possible to track the performance for my reference and for my members?

3. How would I be able to make a php for members who signs up to automatically have an id # issued to them for access to the members page?

It may help if I was a little more descriptive.

once someone registers and they list what their subdomain name will be f.e. http://theirname.smallbizunite.net/members/id#

the ones I have underlined is where my questions are. Is it possible to do something like that? Also does it actually have to be that or can it be or look something like this

From what you are asking I take it you are wanting an affiliate system, where your users sign up, and it tracks how many people have clicked a link with
http://yoursite.com/members/?memberid=#

If so check a website like http://hotscripts.com, I am sure there are multiple commercial and free affiliate scripts. It doesn't necessarily require a sub domain for each user, although some scripts might do that.

If you are looking for just an area where users have to login to view content (which is what this thread was started to discuss), there are many ways to go about it. I released a script in December that uses a password protected directory to protect pages, but allows for users to sign up without the website owner/administrator having to make each users account manually. (Theres a link in my sig)

Thank you for the response. It is something like an affiliate program but not completely. My main question is like my main domain name is www.smallbizunite.net and my subdomain is going to be
http://free4profit.smallbizunite.net. On my subdomain I want to have members sign up and upon signing up, if there would be a way to have another subdomain name of their choice and a page created f.e. http://theirname.smallbizunite.net or http://theirname.net between the two I'm not sure which one would be possible or if at all possible to do or would I have to purchase another domain to do that?

There might be existing affiliate script that will generate each user a subdomain of.... http://theirusername.yourwebsite.com.

Having theirname.net would be a new domain for each user, which isn't feasible whatsoever.

So, I guess technically the subdomain is possible, I just don't know for a fact if there are any affiliate scripts that will make subdomains.

I appreciate that. I hope their is a way but if not I could always just buy another domain name. Thanks for your help
