Default making my 'booking form' safer...

    Hi there,

I would like to make my 'booking form' page safer for my clients, so they could send their credit card details without having to worry about it.

    Have found this solution: http://www.digicert.com/
It costs from $144/year. And they also give you an authentication and validation for the business.

Does anyone know anything about it or would have a better idea?

    Cheers,

    Have a look at http://www.vodahost.com/ssl.htm

This one has the advantage that VH will install it for free.

Please note that you can't install the digicert certificate without a Dedicated IP address and, anyway, VH will have to install it for you (which is an extra charge). So i believe that the VH solution is by far the best

    Thanks a lot Naval!

Just to make sure: I just have to go to the link you sent me and 'ORDER'. They would take care of the 'dedicated ip ad.' you mentioned? I just have to give them the information they request to instal it in my booking form page?
    (sounds good!!)

Correct. VH will assign you a dedicated IP address and install the SSL cerificate for you.

    Thanks Naval.

Last question: would you be able to send me a couple of web sites (the links) with the SSL so I could have a look at? This way I can have an idea how my page will look like.

    Thanks again,

Can see that you are on line now.
Any secure page you know I could have a look at?

Not sure what you mean. The SSL certificate doesn't add anything in your pages. It only makes them secure, and makes the Safe site sign appear on your browser address bar. It is up to you, if you wish, to add any image or logo on your page, to make even more evident that you are a safe site.

    Thanks.
I'm trying to o order it. Here is what I'm doing:

On 'Tell us who you are' I choose 'add this order to my account'

then comes the email and password....I'm using the password I use to publish the site. Is it right? I remember only two: the one for the site and the one to write on this forum. None of them are working.
my client number is # 11862

One last and important question regarding the SSL: Are they going to secure the entire site? I don't need it. I would like to have only the 'booking form' page secure. Is it possible?

    Cheers,

The password will be different from both your website and forum password. It should have either been entered when you signed up for hosting, or a generated one should have been emailed to you.

No, it will not secure the entire site, only pages you specify.

    Hi guys,
I've ordered the SSL and thought that they were doing the set up for me. Waited for 24 hrs (actually 2 days) and emailed the support. They told me that I should do that myself. Here is their email:
"You need to do this yourself, you must change the hyperlink to use
    https"Than you, Brad

    How do I do that?

    Thanks,

What Brad is saying, is this: in your Menus, where youi have the link to your form, add the "s" at the end of the http so your link to the secured page becomes https://www.yourdomain.com/pagename.html . Note the "s" after http.

You MUST do this to ALL your menus so when a client wants to go to the specific page, he goes through the SSL.

    Thanks (again) Naval.

    It works like magic!
What I need to do now is to learn everything about CMS...I have more than 60 pages (menus) to go to and change to this new link! And publish them all! Hard work! lol

There is an easy way to do it without changing the menus, with a .htaccess file that will redirect from the http (non secure) to the https page.

It is even easier if your page is php.

Let me know if you are interested, and i will provide it for you.

    Yes, I am interested!
No, my pages are not php.

One thing that I've notice and am a bit worried about: I could have all my pages in https - they are all available, eventhough I've asked for the 'booking form' page only to be secured. Is this considered 'spaming'? I mean having 2 pages http://www.nzbrtours.com and https://www.nzbrtours.com with the same content? Actually not only 2 pages but the entire site has been *******ted!

Your pages are NOT *******ted: the "s" at the end of the "http" simply shows the browser that shoold exchange the data with the site through the SSL protocoll (data encryption).

I need to know if you alreday have a .htaccess file in your folder where the form is, if yes, instead of creating one, you need to modify (add content) the existing one. If that is the case, please send it to me so i can add the content, if not, let me know so i create it from scratch.

Sorry Naval but I don't have the .htaccess (don't even know what it is! lol )

Is it going to be too hard to manage once you set it up? Just asking because I don't understand much about all these things...and if I have to I go my way..page by page.... lol

    Thanks,

A .htaccess file is quite simple. Actually it is a text file.
Now that i know that there is no such file in your public_html (make sure!!! at times such a file is created by some applications!) i will prepare one for you, you simply need to upload it in your public_html.

use my contact form to send me your email address so i can mail it to you.
Please note that it is already here in Italy, so i might do that tomorrow morning,

    Hi Naval,

Have just sent you my email via your contact form.

Went there (public html) to double check it, and voila! Found it. I could not open it. I've double clicked on it (just beeing curious) and came up this message: 'problem with executing of the viewer'.

    Also shows:
the logo beside it (to choose a program to open it).htaccess 1KB (size) HTACCESS File 17.01.2007 (date modified)

    Hope this info helps.

    Cheers,
