Thread: How to make an online store?

Hello,

I have built a few sites but they are standard issue stuff. I need to build a site that is a online store and am not sure where to begin. What I want is something where basically I have my whole catalog with a shopping cart and pay pal check out. Of course from building my other sites this seems like a huge process to me.

Building the site isnt a problem but adding the elements scares me some and I am looking for some direction and suggestions.

If someone has built a site like this could you send me your link so I may look at it?

I guess what I need is an ebay style site without the auction that has search in my site to find an item, a shopping cart and pay pal check out.

Maybe this is easy and I am just brain dead at the moment. I am also going to use Vodahost for the first time to host it so maybe things will be easier.

I am just brainstorming and looking for some example of sites anyone may have built that does this using BlueVoda.

Soholaunch is probably your best bet and the best way to learn the process. It has the cart included and a database for your products.

One question though, can I keep the look of my website? Can this be laid into something I created for my "look" using Blue Voda?

Do you by chance have an address of site that is built with this so I can view it?

Ok I just paid for my Voda Host service.

Where do I download Soholaunch so I can start figuring it out while waiting for my domain name..

I am assuming its a entire site builder like Blue Voda?

I am just scared all the logos and everything I have already made in Blue Voda wont work with it.. I hope I am wrong

Its in your cpanel in fantastico. You can SAVE the logos as images and use them.

We could also do a store with bv and custom cart if you want to put a form on each product.. but there will be no database in this manner. Thats why i suggest soho.. so you get the full idea of the ease of building with a cart... but its up to you.

Yes soho is qualified and you can take credit cards onsite with dedicated ip and ssl

Ok I am already confused. Can I only use the templates they provide? Can I incorporate it into the look I already want?

My site is www.jamesincemotorsports.com and I only have one page up but it has the look I want.

Please help and whats an address of a site using this? I would like to see an example if you can help me.

Ok I installed it and it replaced my index page. I cant have that or a plane Jane looking site.

Well ... That look can be generated fairly closely yes. One of my sites is soholaunch and if you visit my signature youll find others. Also the soholaunch forum you can find many others. This is much easier than customizing a cart for numerous products and cutting and pasting buttons.

Can I build my site offline and then put it online after I have the look I want?

When I installed it my current index page was replaced..

What is thew address to the forum as I uninstalled it so I could have my page back.

You are very helpful as so many of us ask stupid questions because we are ignorant of new things. I honestly want to thank you for that as it must drive you crazy at times yet you keep helping.

I found the forum when I was smart enough to look. lol

I have created a sub domain and have installed it there which is perfect as I will just link to it as an online store.

My next step, or what I think is my next step is getting my logo and colors to work with it (make it look like my site). I might be jumping the gun but I think thats my next step and could use direction in doing that.

You will want to go thru and read the soho threads in that section, also in the bulder admin, template manager upper top right is a link to a downloadable pdf file.. I think it says developers template guide..something like that.. anyway.. it will tell you how to develop or even alter one of the given templates to match it to your site.
