Question how to protect from spam/harvesting?

Hello. Is there a way to allow my site visitors to email me, without putting my email address at risk of harvesting and spam? The form tutorial I watched would allow my email address to be viewable in the html code. Thanks for your help!

    new2voda,

    Via php script is the way to go . Check here for details;

    http://www.netisopen.com/computer/web/webpagestuff.html

Look under contct mail to. One has the php portion embeded in the html page and one has the php script page seperate and then re-directs after the processing to the confirmation page. In either case- your e-mail address will not be visable.

Which kind did you use for the 'contact Keith' form/page on your site? Embedded in html or php separate? Thanks!

    new2voda,

I used the one where you embed the php in the page created with BV. It is the easiest of the two.

    hey David-

I put the computer section in the I-Frame like Navaldesign- could that be the problem?

Let me know because if it will inhibit people seeing the section- I will put it back to the way it was.

Question Re: how to protect from spam/harvesting?

Thanks for your help. I got the contact info done, but am now having a problem with the navigation bar. The link name from the main (index) page to my contact page and back from contact to index seems to be switching between 'contact me' and 'home page', either as it has loaded or when the mouse hovers over it. The info looks correct in the BV webbuilder saved pages, but the published pages don't match the saved pages. I tried re-saving and re-publishing repeatedly, and it comes up with a variety of combinations but still doesn't seem to match the saved versions. Any ideas? Here is my site link www.yourcalifornianotary.com
    Thanks,
    Theri

Try emptying your temp files and view your site again. It is working fine for me.

    Hi Theri,

I cannot see exactly what you mean as your home page and the link to your contact page are working fine.

Personally, since I sell products - I'll deal with the spam in order to make it as easy as possible for customers to contact me. If you are not in a business where that ease is important - then the method above is definitely the way to go.

Question Re: how to protect from spam/harvesting?

I deleted cookies, and temp files, and still see the wrong wording on the top link of this page www.yourcalifornianotary.com/contact.html The top link goes back to my index page, but the visible wording says 'contact me'. Does anyone else see this?

Yes now that you mention it.

The url on your contact button is pointing to your index page.

OR your home button is named "Contact" !!!!!!!!!!!!

Question Re: how to protect from spam/harvesting?

Thanks for checking. Exactly the problem. My index page's contact button may say contact me or home page, depending on what it is doing at that moment, but does go to the correct page.....the contact page. The contact me page's button may say home page or contact me....depending.....but does go to the correct page....the home page. I don't know what to do to make it load properly.

Thanks for the encouragement in my business, by the way.

As you are not using I-frames, have you created your nav bars one at a time? and if so have you checked the individual button names?
    This one is strange !!!!!!!!!!

Have to go now, hope you solve this one...

    good night all.

It looks like what is happening is that when I republish the pages, they both match. They'll both say 'home page' or 'contact me' on the nav bar labels, even though they navigate to the correct page they may not have the right label. They are correct in my saved pages in Web Builder though. Weird. Any ideas anyone?

What they SAY in the nav bar doesn't have anything to do with where you have told them to go. Go into the pages going to the wrong place, right click, and I bet you'll find your problem :)

Smile Re: how to protect from spam/harvesting?

Got it. David, you were on to something. I had originally copied and pasted the nav bar to save time w/formatting, then edited it. That seems to have been the problem. I went to my contact page, deleted the nav bar, and recreated it. It has the same info it had before, but now it works.

    Thanks!
