Guestbook Question

Hi,
I hve been struggling with the guestbook for a long time now. I have followed the instructions but just cant seem to get it to work.
Heres what i have done so far:
- I opened a new page in BV, clicked on the guestbook button.
- then in the advanced tab of the gestbook properties - i left the default settings as they are
- in the page properties dialogue i put the file extension as .php
- i then saved my page as guestbook and published it
- according to one of the forum posts they said to go to the webpage and types in a message
- however when i go to the webpage in the place where the guestbook should appear, I see a blank spot.
- everything else on the page is visible - as in the navigation bar..
- the link o the page is www.cletabriansilverwedding.com/guestbook.php

can you please please tell me what i am doing wrong.

You need to upload 'guestbookdb.php' on your server using BlueFTP, and set the permissions to 777.

I'm still a little unclear on that myself - where is the 'guestbookdb.php' file located before you upload it? I don't know where to find it for uploading.

start over thats what i did for my gestbook and put it on a hole different page and labled the page gestbook that worked for me

Hello all,

I have installed the bluevoda guestbook and it works perfectly. However, of late I am experiencing problems with spammers bombarding my guestbook.

Does anyone know how spammers can be stopped permenantly from bombarding my guestbook, without me having to login to admin and manually delete them?

The Viper guestbook found in your control panel under the Fantastico Icon has a moderator mode, meaning you can approve or disapprove the posts before they hit your guestbook. You may wish to try this guestbook out.

I believe with the BV guestbook you can ban url entries which may or may not stop some spanners with their urls ...

I only have a question regarding the guestbook I created - I would like to delete some messages from the guestbook. How do I login to admin?...

If you have added the "admin" link to your page, than simply click on that.

If not, type in your browser:

Go in your BV page and double click the guestbook, check your username and password for the guestbook. Use them to login

sorry I meant that I typed in http://www.paulhannaux.com/guestbook.php?admin=login but I can't get in to delete those 3 messages...

I went back to the BV guestbook and clicked on the "advanced" tab - and ticked on the "show admin link" box and put in my password, but there's nowhere i can put in my username. gees it's 1.09 am here! I'll look out for your reply tomorrow. good night if night time there! susie(:

That's because the combination of colours you have used has made the input box invisible. But, believe me, it is there. Just click approx. 1 cm to the left of the "Login" rectangle.

ok, hello all,

it is really nice to read other comments, but could we continue on the first and initial question??
I'm pulling my hair out here and I don't want to open the same question again on a new thread.
Where can we find the guestbookdb.php file??????????????
The one and only file I have (on compu & server) is guestbook.php
and I can obviously not see my guestbook on the internet.

I just watched the tut. for 3 time again but I'm still non the wiser of where abouts I can find that guestbookdb.php file, and hence I can not upload it with the blueFTP?!?!???????

Help SOS Help Please Please

You don't need to find it. When you publish the page, it will give you, the first time, an error message. Just make a post /something like "Welcome, please sign our guestbook") and the file will be created. (After someone makes a real post, you can delete this one if you like). All will be ok at that point.

Did you publish the page ? BV automatically uploads all necessary files. If it is not showing, you have done something wrong.

Hi Navaldesign,

Yes I published the page, and with a copy of info on what to do next waiting next to me.
After I published I went to the url of my site+guestbook to leave a message as told, but then found nothing there?

Should I make a new page and delete the one thats there, and try again?

I will add to this, I just found that it only published 22kb and the one on my local harddrive is 36kb??????
Theres the problem, but how do I resolve it? delete old make new? I tried publishing again but stays the same??

The page is called "guestbook.php" which means that it has the same name as the guestbook file. Use another name for your page or for your guestbook.

Make sure hat prmissions of the file guestbook.php are set to 644

The pernissions are 644. The "Internal Server Error" disappeared. I'm not sure what the problem was, I just changed a link reffered to http://www.pigovat.com/guestbook.html to http://www.pigovat.com/myguestbook.html.
Now I have another problem: when I browse to the page (both http://www.pigovat.com/uestbook.php and http://www.pigovat.com/myguestbook.html), I get the following message repeated a couple of times: "Warning: date() expects parameter 2 to be long, string given in /home/ixvexljr/public_html/guestbook.php on line 213"

What is the problem now? I didn't change the auto-generated guestbook.php.

I can't find Viper in "Fantastico" now. I did last month and clicked on the link. If I remember correctly it said not to download and uninstall if you had it. Like there was a problem or something.

i want to make this page www.sportsterridersa.com/forum.html into a members only section. so how do i do this?
At the moment i can log into the admin thing via www.sportsterriderssa.com/guestbook.php?admin=login but then while i am logged in, i cant see the actual guestbook- only the comments.
am i doing something wrong?
or is a guestbook not able to be password protected? if not, what else do i use? because i dont want to download a forum program or anything.

Hi there, I'm new here.

Questions about guestbook: I can't find my 'guestbookdb.php' on my pc so I couldn't upload it. However, I find it in my server, public_html forder, it's already there! Very confusing!

Then I tried to change the permission of the file from 644 to 777 as tutorial mentioned. However, it did not chage! What should I do?

the gestbook is showing and seems working. But can I hide the messages input by visitors?

I am having similar problems to others. I have setup Guestbook in my page feedback.html

I have published but the guestbookdb does not appear. There is a guestbook.php. Maybe php is not installed??

the file is automatically uploaded. You can't see it in your computer because it is part of the BV executable. Permissions should be 644. The file that is created (guestbookdb.txt) should be changed to 777, and only if required.

Not sure what you mean by "Hide the messages input by visitors". I mean, that's what a guestbook is supposed to be there for, isn't it ?

I cannot login to delete my guestbook comments. There is only one spot there there is no room for password and for username. Am i supposed to have another password for guestbook?

In BlueVoda, double click the guestbook, and go in Advanved. Check the "Show Admin Link" checkbox, so it will appear in your guestbook for you to enter the administration mode. Save, publish the page, and test

You can't really. You can only monitor it (check the "Enable email notification" option) and delete spam posts.

Gustbooks have this problem, as they are always there for people to sign and post.

As i already said, in BlueVoda, Double click the Guestbook and go in Advanced. Tick that checkbox.

Publish again.

At this point, the Admin Login link should appear in your Online page.

I wonder if anyone can help me with this guestbook problem..

I've done everything as discribed with the php file upload etc.. but still when I open the webpage..the guestbook is a white blank box.. I can't find any space to put in a test-message..

So please help me!

I can see your guestbook, actually i have even entered a test post. However, you have surely mistakken something! How is it possible that the guestbookdb.php , which is an INTERNAL file (should never appear) appears and it also has a header on top ????

Please repeat the installation. Your guestbook page should be named something else, and there is no need to be php, it can also be html.
