Hello.
Before I start, I hope that this criticism is taken in the right way and help make vodahost a better hosting provider.
Today I am moving one of my sites to vodahost and having some concerns. So I thought I would write it on the forum just to let others and everybody at voda host know.
Lets say somebody is TRANSFERRING his site from some other hosting provider to vodhost. After registering with vodahost, he receives a mail from vodahost saying that he needs to change his DNS settings with his registrar to point to DNS servers of vodahost, then only the account will be setup.
So changes in DNS is made. DNS changes reaches to vodahost. Account is setup. But account information mail does not contain the IP address of the host. It only contains the hostname. So I cannot FTP till hostname points to the vodahost IP address by my dns. Which may take some more time.
Then DNS is propogated everywhere (and at my place also). So host now resolves to vodahost ip and I can start FTPing my site. Which may take 1 hour to 6 hours more.
My queston here: Won't these setting changes will bring down my site? Yes. It will. Till the site is not complete setup AND uploaded AND all DNS changes are propogated to all DNS around the world.
Upload can itself take from 1 hour to 6 hours.
DNS changes may take around 8 hours to 24 hours.
Why do you want all this? Is this a simple process?
Just setup the account and send the ip address and dns names/ips to the person. Let him copy all the files to your server and THEN change the dns. This will give him ZERO downtime. While your current process will give atleast 12 hour down time. This downtime may increase if the account holder is in differnt time zone. (as I m from India)
I hope you are understanding what I m trying to say.
Thank you.
Regards
