  • What would happen to exsisting site

    Hi all.............

I have a live Oscommerce site at the moment but I need to temporarly replace it using BV webbuilder using html rather than php that os uses !

What would happen to the exsisting site Oscommerce site?
Obviously the Os site uses Php! If I upload and new index page using BV webbuilder in html (indexpage) am I going to loose everything on oscommerce site or can someone tell me what to do here.

Please, please can someone advise me what to do.

    Thanks in advance, Steve

    Hi Steve

It sounds like you are building a new site but want to use the domain name of the Oscommerce Site? and I guess you are thinking that if I use that domain name what will happen to Oscommerce?

It sounds to me that you are trying to do something that I've just done. If you can tell me what you intend to do with your new site and with Oscommerce. I might be able to help.

Also please post the url of Oscommerce

    Thanks

    Darren

Re: What would happen to exsisting site

Hi sorry for delay......School run etc !

The problem im having is that my bank wont issue me a business account due to the nature of the site ( adult lingerie & acc) Nothing else!

As I explained earliar I have a current site built with Oscommerce. What im thinking of, is masking the current sites products with only a few pages of something else until I get approval from bank and account opened !

Then i would simply re-publish the old Oscommerce store back again with the 2500+ products currently on there! I know this seem a strange way of going about it, but the bank is being extremely tight as the site is not that bad really! As I hope you can appreciate the site has taken a while to build and dont really want to have to start from scratch.

Also just thought I`d add that im also having probs trying to sitemap the website . I have installed the ror sitemap program, ran it and then found it couldn`t find any links on site! I have read in the google part of this forum and it seems Brad thinks the site may have problems with the links. This was not relating to me, but it seems somebody else had the same problem!

I have gone through the site and it seems all links are working as they should do! Anyway I will give you the link below to site and would appreciate any advice on either topics above.

Thanks for your interest in this post, Steve

Re: What would happen to exsisting site

        Steve

You dont want to screw with a Merchant Account. If you mess up one, the rest will ban you too, or at least any decent one will. With that said its usually NOT the bank that wont do adult products but the processor who wont do the porn. So.. dont mess with this.. do it above board.

Now is it the BUSINESS account or the MERCHANT acct? I dont think the business end cares what you are selling. I didnt have to declare a thing at the bank to open a business account. There are offshore and other accounts that WILL handle this, you just need to keep looking, theres more than one bank

Re: What would happen to exsisting site

          Hi Steve

i get the jist of what you are trying to do and can only offer a suggestion to what I would do, so please listen to any other advice from other members who have been using BV for a lot longer than me.

I will firstly assume you have control over your domain and can change the name servers.

I would then buy a new domain name, similar to above and point it to the Oscommerce Site.

I would then point your current domain name to BV. I am assuming you want to do this because you probably advertise it)

Then build a new site in BV to look and feel the same as your current site and then link back to pages in your existing site that you feel appropriate. (or not in the short term) Like a logon page with subtle pictures perhaps??

I've done exactly the same thing look at my link below and have a look around. You probably not notice but you will be jumping in and out of 2 sites, www.dcofficeproducts.co.uk (which I built with BV) and http://dcofficeservices.opnet.co.uk (which is the ecommerce side).

This is what I have done and it works for me. I hope I have understood you correctly, please let me know.

Re: What would happen to exsisting site

Hi again thanks for your replies

First I just wanted to say to karen that the payment processer (Secpay) are absoulutely fine with the site! Its just the bank i wanted to use are being tough. With secpay you need to enter a internet merchant number, then, if i were to get this bank account open i could then withdraw any earnings into bank account.

The thing is I already signed up to secpay at £10.00 per month and at the time I thought they worked the same as Paypal. Now I have since realised im gonna have problems with a bank accout, resulting in a monthly payout of £10.00 or a £120/$250 termination fee, Dam!

I hope you can see me desperation in trying to get the online payments set-up so at least i get some use out of it!!!!!

            2 Words everybody......................MARKET RESEARCH !!!!!!

Ohhhh by the way I would say Porn is a very strong word for my site !! ;)

Thanks again both of you, you are DIAMONDS !!!

A strong brew and ciggy is in hand a long think on what to do!!!
I have had a few sales from mainland europe only been up and running for 2 weeks or so..........Ahh well lets see how we go!

Oh, any advise on the sitemap issue?

            Cheers again, Steve
