  • WWW and public_html directories

Why I have both WWW and public_html directories in my web space folders?

Are they the same folder with two names (mirrors)???

Are they both available for http browsers?

What is the differences between them??

    Thanks.

    Re: WWW and public_html directories

WWW folder is basically a short cut to the public_html. Essentially, they are one and the same folder, the www being more of an ICON like on your desktop than it is an actual folder.

Dont kill yourself figuring out the whys and wherefores, its standard setup in cpanels. When you publish with 99% of all web applications you will use the public_html. I havent seen anything use the the www in a long time, and the ones i did see were manually set up to use the short cut to the public_html.

It doesnt take up any real space on your server and in some ftp applications/clients it appears with the 45degree angled arrow indicating its a shortcut and if you upload something to it, it will automatically push you into the public html folder.. hence the shortcut is working as it should.

For everything you plan to do tho.. public_html will be the norm to place your files.
