Being a California native myself, I grew up favoring See's Bordeaux....

And since Godiva is available almost everywhere nowadays, I simply must treat myself to a Truffle now and again!

Stop it now....like Bee said earlier, drooling on the Forum floor is not allowed!

Sees truffles are great - each is about the size of 3 of the UK chocolates! Yummy!

Thortons is okay, but has anyone been to Minerva in Colchester? It's an independant chocolate shop, and wow, their fresh cream truffles are out of this world!

That would be Neuhaus, or Santander dark chocolate. Wait maybe a Lindt or Godiva. Cadbury's are great.

                Ah so many decisions !

Re: Name, Rank, and Chocolate Preference

What I can't understand is why English chocolate (Mars Bar, Twix, Kit Kat) tastes completely different in the USA. Now it's obviously a matter of taste, but I'm afraid I'm always disappointed with the US version!

Is it the other way round for Americans when they visit the UK?

Re: Name, Rank, and Chocolate Preference

                    Yup!
In fact, I just glanced at a headline in the Wall Street Journal yesterday about how the changing taste of the Twix bars cost them their market share. They apparently have reverted to the original recipie (whatever that was).
Just like Coca Cola, each 'franchise' manufactures according to the preferences of the market they sell to....Coke is much sweeter in the UK, and more bubbly in the Caribbean.
I've noticed that Hershey bars, for instance, have less milk chocolate and more of a darker flavor in the UK, and the Snickers have less peanuts and more caramel. Weird, huh?

Re: Name, Rank, and Chocolate Preference

I am told that major chocolate bar makers use multiple source cocoa rather than single source which would make for a richer even flavored bar. And because governments get involved, the formulas are very different.
