The previous page is overwritten when you re-publish it. However, you will not have deleted any gifs or jpegs that you had with the old page. You may need to clear out your public_html file occassionally if you use too many gifs (for example, naviagation bar buttons). This won't matter if you have a small website, but if it is very large you may want to keep an eye on it. The public_html folder works best with less than 1200 files.

Also a good idea to refresh everyonce in a while, F5.
Better yet clear your computer's cache, cookies and temp files.
