Thread: Pages not linking together?

Hi. I am having trouble getting my pages to link together. My home page is www.candzvending.com I wtched the tutorials, and still cant get the site to work. Home page comes up fine, but when I click on the other pages they do not come up? I thought that I had them linked properly, am I missing something?

Hey!

If you about us page is saved as aboutus.bvp then when you link the about us link type in http://www.candzyending.com/aboutus.html and that should work if the page is published.

What ever you save your page as is the link of the page in either .html or .php if you change the setting.

Let me know..

Maybe if you post the urls for the other pages we can take a look and see what might be the problem and also tell us if you are getting and error messages...that also helps.

The other two pages are still under construction. I have not published them yet. Could that be the problem?

No, links for published pages should still work. Are all your pages in the same place as the index.html page or have you put them in a folder of their own?

Also, have to check.. you have used _ underscores in your links... Are these also present in the actual page names? Ie. contact_us.html

and not contact us.html

No, I do have the pages with an underscore contact_us

I am really drawing a blank. I thought I had it done correctly.

Any other suggestions?

Just looking at the code for you page Zeke.. The links are perfect. the problem is something to do with the pages themselves. My first guess would be that they are not uploaded/published but this is an obvious thing and I am pretty certain that you have uploaded them.

Are all the pages located in the same place on your server? Ie together with the index page?

Rob, I would hope so. I don't know how to check that. I saved each page, then hit the publish link at the top of BV. I thought that I had each page written up correct to link to one another. Still for some reason still not linking. you have been very helpful, and I thank you . Any other suggestions?

Well, if your page names are definitely the same as your links like this...

.. The pages names must be exactly the same as they are detailed in each link. Then it should be ok. My problem is that I dont use the BlueVoda software so I am not certain on how to advice you when it comes to checking that thepages do exist on your server.

One way to check for sure would be to....

1) Go into your Control Panel,

2) Click the button marked File Manager,

3) Click the little yellow folder marked Public_HTML

4) Have a look at the list of files there just in order to make sure that all the pages are present.

Did as you said. when I clicked on each one it popped up on my screen. But for some reason still not linking. I have no clue. This is getting very frustrating...Rob, thanks for all the help so far...anything else you can think of? I 'm sure its something that is right in front of me, but I just can't see it????

You have to home pages: http://www.candzvending.com/ and http://www.candzvending.com/index.html

Your home page should be saved as index check the links on the first.

Ok this is something new for me Bill as I dont use the BV software.

The first link in your post above doesnt seem to work for me but also, blahblahblah.com surely isnt a home page? Its just a URL that goes to index.html by default?

I must be a moron, I just don't get it? Two pages? I saved my home page like they suggested in BV with "index" I'm not sure what you mean by the first page. Now its not even coming up???ARRRRGGGHH

The first link is http://www.candzvending.com/

Check how you linked your pages and how you saved them, sometimes a typo is easy to overlook.

Still get error 404???

Also, on the BV Menu click Tools>Verify Links

only my home page is verified. What causes this. I published each page. whats next Bill?

Easiest thing to do is delete from public_html and republish as follows:

Home - http://www.candzvending.com/index.html (this would be your index.bvp)
Contact Us - http://www.candzvending.com/contact_us.html (this would be your contact_us.bvp)
Skill Cranes - http://www.candzvending.com/skill_cranes.html (this would be your skill_cranes.bvp)
Snack and Drink - http://www.candzvending.com/snack_and_drink.html (this would be snack_and_drink.bvp)

When u upload your bvp files to server they are converted to html and put in your public_html.

Your nav bar or menu bar should have page names as in blue (if you want...you can call what ever but be sure you link to the correct html file.)

Hope that wasn't too confusing...good luck..if all else fails submit a support ticket but be patient as they have lots of people to respond to.

If you wish, use my form to send me your loggin info (IP address, username and password) and i'll see what is going on

Do this first, clear the temp files from your computer. In IE6 Tools>Internet Options> Delete Temp Files (offline too). Clear History and might as well eat the cookies while you're there. Close the browser window. You might have to reopen the BV forum.

In BV, open your index page and the file you saved as contact_us did you add .html or .bvp ?
-If you did save again as contact_us

-If you did not, save as contactus no underscore.
-Go to your index page. Right click NavBar and make sure points the heading Contact US to http://www.yourdomain.com/contactus .com (I left a space on purpose).
Save both your contactus and index pages and publish in same order.

-Open your website and hit refresh F5 several times. Try it now.

Ok, received your info. This is how you have saved and how you should link your pages. Click on the links to see for yourself:

contact us http://www.candzvending.com/contact us.html
skillcranes http://www.candzvending.com/skillcranes.html
snackanddrink http://www.candzvending.com/snackanddrink.html

It is advisable that you open the pages in BV, save them as you have linked them (as you have been looking for them till now) and republish. Your other option is to change the links in your menubar.

Thanks so much, so it was how I had them saved? Do I need to do anything, or did you correct the problem. I have to go to the ice rink to give some lessons. I will check the site later.

No, i did not correct anything. I can do it, but the next time that you will publish the same pages again, you will have the same problem, so it would be better if you did the corrections yourself. You must either save your pages as you have linked them (contact_us, skills_cranes, snack_and_drinks) and re-publish them, or change the links in your menubar. I would go for the first solution.

I can get the index page to come up but when you click on the enter it says page not found. All the pages are uploaded to the public.html file. I also can't get the new website to come up. Everyone else can get the index page up but me. I have cleared my history, cache and run 3 different window washer programs and I am lost.

What's your site/URL so we can take a look ?

You have to save your home page as index -no upper case, no extensions. Then publish it. Hit refresh F5 several times.

It should now work.
