Question Firewalls Displace Images And Text

My site appears fine in preview, but when published, it cannot be viewed correctly, unless the firewall is turned off.
With the f/wall on, firefox browser displaces some of my images and text to far-off points at the bottom of the page.
The problem is fixed when I turn off the firewall (ZA) and refresh the page several times. The problem is worse when someone is using MSIE. There, it does not get fixed even when the firewall is off.
I checked with an associate who is using the xp firewall instead of ZA.
Since I cannot ask all the viewers of my site to switch to firefox and turn their f/wall off, I will have to find a solution to this.

This is happening to me exactly at the time that I am anouncing an important seminar.
Has anyone else had this problem?

The pictures are a banner with sea waves and a rock and a black and white picture of a ladies head plus some diagrams.

Your page looks good until I continue scrolling down - then I see what you're saying - and it has nothing to do with firewalls - I believe you are possibly using a table somewhere that is throwing these items off. It could be that you are "cramming" the html boxes together and not giving the items the space they need to appear, also,

Naval - it doesn't display fine for me either - are you scrolling all the way down - to where the voda banner is and google search bar? It's way down there that it's all messed up - so something isn't working right. Without scrolling way down, it appears good to me also.

The scroll at the bottom -VH- is only in IE6, does not show up in FF.

    And it's in IE5 AND IE7.

You're right Bill - it's fine in Firefox.

    thank you all.
Especially Beth, for noticing what is displaced at the end of the page..
Since I wrote this, I tried anchoring my photo in place, I also used snap to the grid for all the rest elements. It s still not working.
My page is 900 something wide. Could that be a problem?
None of you has seen this happening before?

As I mentioned in the first post, I m organizing a 6 hours seminar (about longevity and well-being) and I m trying to promote it these days. I m postponing my email campaign untill my visitors can see my page correctly and follow the link to the seminar page. Guess what? the link to the seminar page is thrown to the bottom of the page, and noone can see it.
At this point, this problem is throwing my own potential to longevity to the bottom, like the anouncement of the seminar :)

There is a problem in your page code. You have this code in it:

    <DIV style="position:absolute;left:576px;top:1608px;wid th:145px;height:43px;z-index:49" align="left">
    <a href="<A href="http://www.vodahost.com/partner/idevaffiliate.php?id=5439_0_1_43"><img">http://www.vodahost.com/partner/idevaffiliate.php?id=5439_0_1_43"><img src="http://www.vodahost.com/partner/banners/4.gif" ></a>
    </DIV>

This is the code relevant to the small VH banner at the bottom of your page.
The part in red (closing tags) is missing, and this could have caused the misplacement. Probably, when you copy/pasted the affiliate banner code, you have left it out. Try deleting it and pasting it from scratch. or simply click on the html box you have used to paste the banner code, and manually add the part in read at the end.

When i recreate your page code WITH these closing tags, the page shows up just fine.

Thank you very much naval. That was obviously it! My copy-paste was not complete ;)

One small detail remains: I cannot see the VH banners when I have my firewall on, and neither can my visitors. What could that be about?
Since this is not a matter of life and death anymore, if someone is to help, pls do it at your leisure..

I'll have a look about the banners not showing up, and let you know if i find anything. They didn't show before the correction, now they are showing ok, in IE, FF and Opera. Maybe you are just cacheing ? Glad you solved the problem.

General, thx once again. If it werent you to look at the html, I d still have trouble. About the banners, I still have that: I raise my f/wall, (ZA), I refresh, I lose the banners. I lower ZA, I refresh, I see them.

Question Re: Firewalls Displace Images And Text

    Hi everyone out in Vodaland,

Saw this thread and have a question. I am having a similar problem and have had it since I started building my site. When I look at my site pages, everything appears normal...all placed in proper locations, text, pics, etc. but when OTHER people look up my site from their own computers (or I go to the library and see myself) text or pics are displaced, running off edges of boxes I put them in, covered up, etc.

I have been told this is because I'm building my site from a laptop, not a desktop...and I AM getting someone wonderful to help me by fixing these problems from his own computer once I'm ready to publish...but since this type of problem showed up, I thought I'd ask here if anyone knows what I might be able to do from my own laptop to correct- because I know I'll be continually updating and would hate to rely on my friend forever...

I don't know anything about how to deal with firewalls...but maybe someone can give me some ideas for the future?

Thanks, hope you're all having a great day!

Talking Re: Firewalls Displace Images And Text

Hi again, it's Saturday 1:30 am..why am I here when I should be under the down????

Frustration. That's why! I cannot figure out what's wrong- in my previous post, I mentioned that I'm having trouble with text/images being displaced.

Still having that problem. But on MY computer it all looks fine, when I make a page or preview a page, EVEN when I look at the published page. It's on OTHER computers that the displacing occurs.

I tried changing the resolution from 1290 x 800 to 1024 x 768..for one thing, at that resolution my own computer monitor looks like it's been stretched out like a rubber band and is hard to work with...
I rewrote script, made boxes longer, moved images to what people told me I should...well on my own computer in BV page maker, this looks ridiculous...and on other computers some changes I tried to make didn't change a bit.
E.G.: on colour energy page, midway down right column in bold purple it says " COLOUR WAVELENGTH AND FREQUENCY." I deleted that print, and re-wrote it, moved it, etc...and it is STILL showing up published with the word "frequency" on the line below where that word actually is in BV pagemaker.

Don't know what to do. I've read that some with a similar issue are having firewall problems..but what would that have to do with how another computer sees my page? And I know I can't go to the lowest resolution and work there, because it's just plain fuzzy. HELP pleeeeeeeez. with blueberries, sugar and whipcream on top!

    TYVM, TTYS!!

The problem posted here about firewall displacing images, was incorrect. It was NOT a firewall issue, it was a problem about adding external code, that caused the problem. Your's is probably something similar. Please post here the link to the problematic page.

Also, if you can't see your updated page, it is probably just your browser cacheing. Try hitting sometimes the F5 button.

And, building your site on a laptop or a desktop, doesn't change anything at all.

The problem, 99%, has to do with some external code you have added in your page. Please post the URL and we will have a look.

Leeza, your page seems perfectly ok to me as long as i look at it in IE. there are some displacements in FireFox: this is a known issue with long pages (yours is long) because FF formats text slightly differently. I suggest that you view and adjust your page in both FF and IE, or make it shorter by dividing the content in two pages.

There is not really a rule. It depends on many factors, among them if you use tables or not, how much text you are using, etc. However, in your case, i would say that your page is almost double than what i would expect. I would have used tables to avoid such issues with such a ling page.

would a table allow the page to be longer? I hear varied things, like the search engines don't like lots of pages...would rather they be longer...and I wonder about splitting pages up when everything is related...

and one of my pages that has problems when I look at it from my son's computer IS short- which makes me think something else must be wrong...that page is:

Thanks...I have to run out...be back in the morning (it's 9:45 pm)
