Thread: my pages width

First, I’ll like to apologise in advance, as I’m not sure if I have broken forum rules. I had initially posted this in a different section, but wonder if it is the appropriate sectionas I am not really getting help there. I am sorry, but I needed to get some response

The width of my site doubled after I had added adsense to it. It measures 971, but expanded to almost 1900 after I started my adsense programme. I have tried reducing the width to 800, but has not succeeded, as it seems that my header is wider than that.

What can I do? Please help!

You can't resize to 800 because your header graphics are wider than that. Try a more realistic 910 or so and see how that goes. (Keeping in mind that you really should try to get the entire page to fit into an 800 width.)

You could easily resize your header to under 800 - but then you'll also need to redesign the elements of the page to stay under the 800 width also. It depends on if you're concerned about having anyone needing to scroll left/right - if you stay under 1024 width, you'll be ok with 80+% of the poplulation - but 10-20% do still have the 800 width default on their computers.

I'll try resizing the header to under 800 - and the elements too. I'll let you know how I fared.

But pray, does it mean that the adsense programme has nothing to do with it? I kind of blamed it for the width expansion. Could you please comment on this.

The adsense program is not taking the site wider than the header - so no, I don't see that it had anything to do with it - although if you select an adsense design that is wider than you want, it will cause pages to widen, also.

I got the same problem
My site comes out twice the sice it has to be
But only my index page got that problem
The rest is working fine

My problem with the width is solved by Bethers(thanks)
It was my hitcounters html that coused problems
Maybe youre facing the same problem

Thanks! Bethers is right [Is she ever wrong?!] I resized header and elements to 800 and it worked fine. Amazing the things we learn here!
