Thread: How do i create a second website

Hi, I have sucsesfully created my first site. I want to now create additional sites. Is it as simple as starting a new page and publishing it. i.e are all unlinked new pages automatically designated as "new Sites" by default?

Congrats, I see you are on a "roll" lol ...

So let's say it is an independent site .. Purchase your new domain name at the products & prices link at the top of the forum. You will then add it as an add on domain - a new folder will be created when you do this ... and then you build your site exactly as you have your first, first page index, etc., the only difference is where you publish to - you will then publish to public_html/nameofnewdomain as opposed to just public_html. I always advise to create your own folder for storing your new pages in so that you do not overwrite your existing files of your main domain, an example page is index ... if you didn't there is a chance you might overwrite this . so best to keep them separated on your own computer ...

You can have as many domains in your account with VodaHost as you like. You simply pay for the additional domain name.

And on you go .......

have a look under Domains here in the forum for tutorials that will guide you the entire way ....

Alternatively you chould choose a sub-domain, however, the url of your main domain continues to be in the url of your subdomain - these are also unlimited and are free - however, are not independent of your main domain ...

I already have 2 sites running, one on a main PC and one on my laptop. I want to put the laptop's site onto the main because I have to reset the laptop. So I create as you outlined above but they have different upload IPs, can I still do this?

Yes, just make sure each have the latest version of blue voda and all ip's should be accessible from either laptop or desktop ...

Thanks Lady Eye, I will create the folder and place the two sites together - excuse the ignorance, My dan-air.org will keep its DN and not become a child of snoozeandsizzle - that is most important to me, my flight simmers will not be looking for snoozeandsizzle/dan-air - I have been involved with a child site before and lost 80% of my hits!! Hope that this makes sense to you, and thanks for your advice, Charlie. [yes, I will RTFM!!!]

Considering that Holly and I are having a MUDSLIDE contest, RTFM!! could mean alot of things and Im not sure we want to go there or that any of the above post makes sense in our current state of losing inhibitions.

You will do fine keeping your domain files for each separate, remember where u are publishing to, keep a check that things are as they should be, u will be fine, remember what you do on one computer, you need to copy to your files on our other computer so that at any given time you have the most complete up to date files on either site ... always, right ?
