Default uploading video but not working

I have been trying for hours now to upload a mpeg movie file with the Windows media player. The upload is slow, very slow and each time it "times out". ..however. .when I check the ftp folder. .its there. ..BUT IT DOES NOT RUN.

I have another related question. ..when you have a page with a video file or two and you want to make an incidental change on the page. ..do you really have to publish and upload all the videos again. After a video has uploaded and is in your sites ftp folder. ..isn't there a way to link directly to that folder and run it so that you don't have to constantly reload and reload the video whenever you want to make just a peripheral change.

The upload time is related to your own internet connection, sounds perhaps like it might be a fairly large file too ... I am not sure if it has made it completely there ... but you could try the link and see if it has ...

The link would be http://www.nameofyourdomain.com/nameofmusicfile.wma or .mp3 or .wav or whatever the file extension is ...

If the links works and it begins to download or play when you click it, it means it has made it ...

In the same regard, you could also u8se the link on your page, instead of the media player, this then would help with your 2nd problem of making changes on the page ...

Thanks, I'll try that. . .I was able to get the file to run. It appears the problem was Windows Media Player doesn't like Mpg. ..the regular Windows player handles them fine. . .its a mystery to me but when I rerendered the file into wmv. ..it ran. ..BUT. ..I have another problem now. . .its the "autostart". ..I don't want to "autostart" because I want to put a second video on the page. . .I've disengaged the autostart on both but they still autostart anyway. ..I gave up and just made a second page for the second video. . .but do you have any idea why you can't disengage the autostart feature in the windows player. .. .its checked and I uncheck it. ..but it has no effect. ..it still starts regardless.. .thanks.

it appears you figured things out. I have the same situation so I just saved all my videos in Window Media and they play very well. As for reloading your film if you make any change on your site, you do not have to reload the videos or any other part of your page. You just have to save the page and republish. Watch out when you are republishing with videos as I have found it takes longer and have set up my time out to 240 instead of 120. The other thing you have to do is clean up your temporary files often. At least that is my expierence. What is the name of your website?

    thanks Mrmagoo,

I have a question about what you said here:
As for reloading your film if you make any change on your site, you do not have to reload the videos or any other part of your page. You just have to save the page and republish.

What is the difference between "reloading" and "republishing" . . ..Here's what I'm asking. ..an example. ..lets say I have a misspelled word on a page with a video on it. . .I only want to correct the misspelled word.. . .I change it. ..but then I have to republish for the change to take place. My question is . ..why do I have to also republish everything. ..especially the video that takes so long and many times I get a "timed-out" notice.

Once, a few months ago, I experimented with a video. .. I uploaded it via my ftp manager and then in the windows media player I typed in the ftp address for the video. ..IT WORKED!. . .and best of all. ..it saved so much time on republishing because it was only republishing a link address and not the whole video. ..which is already in the ftp site folder. ..BUT I CAN'T FOR THE LIFE OF ME REMEMBER HOW I DID IT. .. .I CAN'T REMEMBER THE EXACT ADDRESS. . .something like. .public_html/siteaddress/videofilename. This saved so much hassle.. .but. ..doggone it I can't remember how I did it.
