Thread: How do I create a url for my web page?

I would like to know how to create an url for my web page for example: how to make it let say www.cars.com <- I want to know how to do that.?

Hi, Firstly you will have to go to a domain registrar and buy your chosen domain name. You can buy them through VH or do a search in google 'buy a domain name'.

.. or if you have a domain and its pointing to VH servers and you are building your home page in BV, then save this page as index and publish.

Just to give you a bit of info on what I'm trying to do.

I just got BV today and I'm still playing around but I'm trying to create a web page on endometriosis. I have a big support group on Facebook but a lot of members has asked me how can they join the group without joining Facebook so I decided to create a web page for the group so that the members can join and post blogs pic's ect on the site like they would have on a facebook group.

So I will be posting alot of questions in the future. Its quiet different from coding in HTML and so on because I've created the web page in DHTML but ya.

Thanx I will look into the future reading, as i just explained to Darren what my plans are i would like to leave it as a .com domain. Just one quick question if i understand correctley your first domain is free and you don't need to buy it if you register it through BV?.

Yes, if you register for hosting with Voda. Where in SA are you from?

I have registered with Voda host I live in Jo-burg Krugersdorp area I'm currently looking for work in web developing but for now while i'm looking i'm trying to expand my knowlegde a bit and thats how i can to find BV

MMM Tom i clicked on the link you posted and it seems like I have to pay $20 is that right ? since i just registered with VH, i should get one free if i understand correctly?

Sorry lol, I gave you the wrong link originally, but I have deleted that post and gave you the correct one in my post above.

Oopz now i feel like a twit i did not see that page lol....

but in anycase don't have a credit card right now since i just finished studing and all the website will have to wait until i have a job lol...

You can pay monthly, anually or for three years in advance. This is NOT for the domain. This is for hosting your website on VodaHost's servers.
Monthly Billing Setup fee + Per Month
Annual Billing Free Setup + every 12 months - works out cheaper.
Tri - Annual Billing Free Setup +every 36 months - works out even cheaper.

Tom just wanted to let you know I got it right i got my domain i think it said http://ndparking.com/yourdomain.com/ in the addresbar and it said
This domain has been blocked in the page does this mean that i have the domain now?

Eish lol, I have no idea what you did or where you clicked. I tried to simulate that, but without success. Before I answer your question, I just need to clear up something... Did you get as far as where you needed to submit your Credit Card details? How far did you get with the procedure?

okay i clicked on your link right, then i got to this page http://www.vodahost.com/order.htm and i clicked on the continue button and got to this page http://www.vodahost.com/order2.htm which i had to select option a and then i got to the following page https://vodahost.com/modernbill/order/orderwiz.php?v=3 which i had to input my yourdomain name in as the coupon they reffered to after which i got to the next page https://vodahost.com/modernbill/order/orderwiz.php?v=3&aid=&c_code=&submit=Lookup+Domain +%3E%3E&submit_domain=register&new_domain=abc&new_ tld_extension=com&submit=next+%3E%3E and if you click on the www you het that http://ndparking.com/

Okay, you can start over. You must think carefully of what you want to name your website. Once you have a proper name, then go to the registration page again. Click Continue. Select Option A.
Now type your domain name (the name you want) (Do not type the .com part). Click Next. The next screen should tell you if the domain is available. If not go Back and type another domain name. If the domain is available, Continue. Select your package. Follow rest of instructions.
But remember, you need a credit card to pay for the hosting.

Well, you are doing well so far, son. No, its not a lot of money, lol. For what you get here is FAR better and cheaper than you can get anywhere in SA.

Use freedomain as your coupon. It was written just above Aption A earlier in the registration.

lol cool stuff i guess its not a lot of cash but if you earn about R320 a month for a part-time job and can't seem to find a real job even with my cv being on pnet and all its a lot of money for me but i'll twist my fathers arm lol.

Okay i finally got it thanx a lot would not have got there without you thanx a lot now the hard part lol finishing the design of the web page lol then i will pay the cash and stuff as soon as my web page is finished lol but in anycase how many web pages have you created and posted Tom? Can i maybe go and take a peak at some of them if you don't mind?

I'm a Learning and Development Specialist in a large telecommunications company. Probably started with them when you were still swinging, lol. (If you know what i mean. hie hie haa haa). I'm trying to make extra income with sophisticated template designs and some websites as well. You will see my template website sometime this year.

Lol most likely yeah well i'm only turning 20 in august so ya lol i just roughtly worked it out to buy a 36 months package with the certification is about R2500 so ya for me to pay that once of is a bit much lol but hopefully i'll get a proper job in the next few weaks but in the mean time it gives me time to develop my web page and learn more until i have the cash to load it on the net.
