Thread: Membership Scripts/website?

I know this is a stupid question, but does your site have to be published to test it. How do I give each of my pages a .com URL? I ask this because when I preview a page, and click a link on that page it goes to a not found page. Does the site have to be published, to test a membership script also? I'm trying to build the site before it goes live. Thanks

Membership scripts and scripts in general need to be published first to test them.
Just create a blank index file first and then publish the page/pages of your script and view/test them.

Because the index page is not linked to anything else, only you will know where the test pages are.

You can overwrite or delete them later.

Is it alright to use the file publisher feature in BlueVoda to enable users to download files off of my site, as long as the files are uploaded into my BlueFTP?

Files are Not uploaded Into your blueFTP, they are uploaded into your website directory using BV FTP.

After your files are in your webspace, and if you provide a link to a downloadable file, when a user clicks that link,the users browser/computer should start the download process.

How do I protect my personal information on downloadable files? I ask this because I tested it and it shows my personal computer info on the downloaded file...(Shows what computer it came from). Thanks

Im not sure if bv uploads files for you, but I think it does if you click publish all files. If not... you will have to EDIT the hyperlink to where its located on your server instead of your computer.

So if I place my zip files in the bv public_ftp, will my personal information be protected? This is all new to me, so im trying to learn as much as possible. I dont want to make a fatal mistake.

What sort or personal info are you talking about ?

The zip files are meant to be download as discussed.

When I load the zip file into the public_ftp, I still have to put the download links on my site....right? How do I make the file on my site public?(the files are on my c:// drive, and it has the name of my computer with the name of the zip file) Thanks

if you dont want your info on it... save your site on a external drive (zipdrive, Xdrive, ect...,ect...)

You dont LINK to your computer, you LINK to your server, when you upload it that personal information is no longer there.. its where it is on your server. None of your personal information or where it is on your computer will be available.

Thanks everyone... Let me make sure i'm on track. If I put my zip files in my public_ftp, and put the same files on my webpage - when I publish my site the files will come from the public_ftp, not my computer?

instead of your upload looking like this => c:\windows\desktop\document.gif it will look something like this => http://ftp.vodahost.com/mysite.com/document.gif

No.. it would be something like

http://www.yoursite.com/document.gif

When I save the links on my web-page, do I save it under HTML, File, or FTP?

Im sorry I should of elaborated more... The links that I am talking about are zip files. I know I need to upload these files in my Public_FTP, I have the same links on my web-page. But when you create a zip file link that allows people to download files from my webpage do you save it as a ftp, html, or just a file?

If the file name is "this"
then save as
this.zip and the file will then be downloadable as a zip file.

If it is a pdf file then save as
this.pdf

etc...................

When I'm hyperlinking my files in BlueVoda, there is Link types you choose from...file, ftp, gopher, http, mail to, news, and telnet. Which of these do I use to hyperlink my downloadable files. Thanks
