Default USing wrong navigation menu i think???

    Hi,
Been going with a while and amazed how many new things i learn daily.
I have quite a lot of things to go on my website because we are a charity event with six separate clubs involved. This means we have info on all clubs then our own events.
Been using a standard navigation bar, but now i've realised my pages are too big at 1200 wide i cant fit this across the top.
Have noticed these menu's that are divided up under the main headings, would this be better as i can have access to every page there. At the moment not every page can be accesed off the home page.
    Would love some advice
    Many Thanks

Ps All this work on here means my guitar playing is suffering, hope i'm ready for my first Open Mic Night

Yes, it's best to build your pages anywhere between '800 and '1000 wide - tick center in browser and apply a background color to your page via page properties - this will then conform to most viewers browsers - avoiding sideways scroll ...

Why not opt for a text menu, and offer your menu down the left side of your page and you could always have sub categories under main headings if your menu was excessively long. If so, it's best to keep between 5 and 7 subs under a main heading - best on the viewer this way - you can always link the main and sub category using a text link - highlight text, insert link. You can always then as well set a link style (different colors) if you wanted to ... again highlighting the text, choosing style, choose add, create the 4 colors and then add the link style appropriately to each text link that you like ..

Good Luck with ur guitar, perhaps it's just the break you needed - building a website .. LOL

hi yw ... yes 1000 is alright .. give yourself some nice borders as a frame type on your central webpage - not the background - but a shape resized on your page (resize to 1000 wide and the length can vary - but keep the same length if you choose to follow the template instructions below) and if you add some borders to it (2 pts or so) and then a bit of space inside of the borders, all should be good on your pages, and no sideways scroll for 90% or more of the viewers .. all will be good .. yw .. just as a side note, it's nice if you create your template by choosing your background color, then inserting your shape and choosing its color, then inserting your navigation with properly working links to all pages, then anything else that you want to make uniform on all pages and then save it as your template, then begin each page with this template, adding your content, and resaving by another name .... (the name of your actual page) ya ...

Hi Paul ... no worries, post away, thats what we all like to do l.. offer help and support ..

ummm .. that link doesnt work, but yes, post up a trial page for us all to see and we can advise ...

as far as the menu, you can use the text menu in the webbuilder, personally I find it jumps .. so me being Red Green, lol, I just use text itself and build and link my menu that way ..

but yes, publish up a trial page for us to view ..

Yes, you are doing great! It's looking good .. you haven't used the text menu, but that is okay, it's your choice .. and that works well for you .. so ya, use it ... you are moving right along!! And yes, a good website will help you raise loads of money for your organization this year .. you can publish the url for your website all around town, all over the internet and in any brochures passed out!! And remember, once you have your page the way you like it, save it as template and then slot in information for all other pages using this as the beginning page for each ...

Hi ... okay, well since your logo does have the white background and any other images you use might end up using might also have the white background behind them .. why not have the shape you inserted as white (the main piece where you will put your info) then black text on the white looks good .. you could do the background of your page (the one you choose on page properties) as blue ... (umm only a personal choice but neon green is not my favorite) what about a nice navy blue or something, again, it's only a personal choice .. (I might stare clear of gradient colors on the background though if you do change it, only because they tend to take longer to load the page .. so maybe a solid is best)

Well that menu you chose, you don't have to use that .. you can just use text and then link the text ... kind of like this ..

I would add a few more things to your page as a template first though ..

maybe your address - your website url - copyright 2009 at the bottom
any slogan you might use - and you can even repeat your navigation menu along the bottom of your page too .. then the copyright just below that -

and you might also sign up with voda host affiliate program, and use a text link at the bottom of the page with your affiliate id, you might earn some cash doing so too - you could always turn that over to the club as well ..

so what do you think .. :)

Well hopefully it won't happen the building its part of, a big 1960's sports complex has been given listed building status, butthey were trying to redo it minus rink.
The Bombers are probably our most famous club haing played in the Premiership in the 80's 90's befoe the money became to great.
Have got some descent pics on there page it should be the website.
The rink somes up our town left to rot and decay, sandwiched between to big towns.
Used to be the global headquarters of ici chemical industry, but its all going or gone.
My event is a bit patriotic to the town, it might be **** but its ours attitude .lol
Working through the changes and will keep updating online so you can view.
One issue, i've posted the Flyer for our next event on there but i think that's maybe making it harder to workout best layout for template for all pages.
Will put that stuff on the bottom as you mentioned, thinking of having a latest news page on every page, would love your thoughts.
I'm a carpenter and short on work so utilises my time, trying to get loads done so don't have to worry to much when back working.

Hey, nice information and will take a deeper look into those pics ...

in regards to your flyer, I see it on there, and that fits okay .. but if you ever have a flyer that doesn't - you could always make a nice image or text link to the flyer and then put the flyer on an independent page that pops up on its own window ...

I am sure your carpenter work will pick up in another month or so, so ontinue on with your website and you will have that done just in time for more work, lol ... all work eh!!

I agree, do whatever you can to save your heritage ... alot is lost when all is in a big town ... it's like highway twinning, making a transcanada highway bypassing the little towns, then the next thing you know it's a ghost town, a real shame imo.

Cheers again, and good luck .. will keep watching.

Do you think the news down the right looks right like i've done it or have you got a better suggestion, i do have a news page on the menu, just wanted it like a news flash kinda thing.
Thanks for all the tips, my girlfriend couldn't believe the webpage
Would appreciate any further advice on this page, everything you have said so far is spot on.

Hi I am not seeing the banner, but dependent what it is you have chosen as your affiliate banner, you would place the code into a html box on your page ... go to insert > advanced > html - drop that box on your page, double click and paste the code with your affiliate id inside ..

I think you have a great idea for the news down the page like that .. keep it current and it is something you can change as newer news becomes available. great thinking!!

Ah, am just noticing too, that when you mouse over your existing menu, you will see it spread out across the page a bit ... ummm, I personally am not a fan of that, it's okay, you do see some sites like that, but you might consider just the basic text menu like we talked about before ... then you wouldn't have this cosmetic appearance happening ... it's up to you .. but before you go further rethink that .. don't forget about your copyright notice, and as well some kind of address, even if it is just your town, and a possible telephone number too if that is relevant and not your own personal number.

You could add a border around the appearance of your header, you could easily do by applying a transparent shape the size of your header with a 2 or 3 pt border, kind of frames it in a bit...

And, don't forget to alt text your images, too, for each image double click and in alt text area, give a bit of info about the picture ...you can read more about that in Collector's tips ...

And about the news, you won't want that as part of your template, that will be a nice addition to your main page (index) ... otherwise you would constantly be changing all your pages - right, yes right lol

And then too, once you have the template set and begin to create your pages beginning with template and saving as the name of each page, you will want to click on page properties and properly title and give a page description of each page as you go along .. each page will be different ..

Slogans? Donations? - perhaps the addition of a paypal donation button, and this is something that could be on every page too ...
