    Question Avoiding broken links?

After a recent hard disk failure I had to restore my system. I reinstalled BV and copied all files & images back into my Document\BV folder.

All links were broken & I had to restore them manually. This was a big pain as I only have about twenty pages and have had to do this twice. What if I had a web site of 60 page 300 plus links?

All my pages are store in my bv folder & the images are in their respective folder in my BV folder.

Is there a way to avoid having broken links in the future?

Is there a file in the BV program file that logs these links?

The best bet is to make back ups afo all your files on an external storage device. Then in the event you have to restore them you can do so from there. Just pay attention to the file paths and pu them back in that spot and you will be ok. For example if your images are in My Documents/My photos/summer '09/what ever
they have to go back there.
Or keep them in a new folder in side your BV folder (such as photos) then up date the external drive regularly .

A hard disk crash does NOT cause any broken links on your website
So it all depends on how you recover from losing your computer/hard drive etc..............

Besides there is such a file and its called sitemap.xml

but you have to create it first through BV

My hard disk problem no longer allows me to backup. Its just a mater of time...kind of like a bomb, tick tick tick...

any moment could be the last.

I do have everything in my BV folder Ed, but they still came back broken(twice now)(i'm backing up my bv files to a stick daily)

Had to use the recover disk David, that came with my system - basicly a new install.

Do I create the sitemap file through the Tools ==> sitemap tab and where do I find the file afterwards? if you know

PS. had three hard disk error warnings while typing this reply

Why not just replace your hard drive, they are so cheap now and so easy to replace. If your system is not a relick and/or you do not have the money to buy a new one. You can get a 100gb hard drive for about $100

    Thanks Ed,

Actually my system is less then a year old. Would like to finish this page before I ship it off to the manufacturer warranty center.

Beside that I've been unemployed going on seven months...wouldn't even waste a fake 100 right now.

might take you up on it if the warranty does not cover it.
