Sorry about the confusion.

I thought it was up to the person that opened the thread. That it was sort of a way of saying that I (the poster) had received & understood the answer, did not need more answers and was finished with this thread/topic.

So what is the meaning of a closed thread?

Why does it get closed?

When a thread has been answered correctly with the right info then it will be closed just like any other file.
this saves other members from wasting time looking at something that has been answered.

Newer members can still read and learn, it also stops spammers.
