Thread: page to open in new window

Could someone give me an example of how to link to a pdf enabling it to open in a new window?

In BV it's the same as any link: text or image, the link properties box has the "Open link in a popup window" option. Is that what you mean?

This is somewhat different. This would be a menu item for a link to a download.
It would not be a text or image link.

Same way.. cant you just add target =_blank? Or new window? As one of the options? Think it might depend on what menu you are using.

I am using a non-BV javascript menu. it does not have the function to choose the target. See midwestpumpandwell.com/

You should be able to edit the javascript.. where you put in the link..

Does not seem to work with this particular tool. I may just wait until all of the bugs are worked out with BV11 and see what I can do there.

If you can edit and are using a code in an html box it will and can be done.. its just I cant see where to put it for you and i didnt go look at your site either.

I'm not sure why you need such a complicated menu since you don't use its dropdown capabilities.

With this said, you can change the target to _blank with this line ;

var DocTargetFrame='_blank'; // Frame where target documents appear BUT it affects all menu items.

A simple solution would be to zip the PDF, so it is forced as download without movin from the page.

Another solution: create a page in the site, with the PDF embedded. So they see it and click Save to save it on their computer.

I may be wrong here or I may not understand ur question. I have done this myself with the help of Karen & Ladyeye...just embed the pdf in a page and it can be saved from there too.

The menu referenced is the most simple of all the sites I use it on. Some sites have 3-4 tiers.

One of the constraints with the particular site I am working on is for there to be no downloads. (why?...dang if I know)
The embedding sounds like the best idea.
I also figured out that you cannot change the script without changing the whole menu function.

Does the embedded PDF show in preview?

As far as I remember the embeded pdf part does not show, just the html box & the rest of the page.
