What is a 301 redirect and how do you do it?

this is done in an htaccess file and its done to redirect a page or a domain, or http://sitename.com or to http://www.sitename.com

Why when I check my SEO score would it tell me I needed to do a redirect to "demarcoinstrumentrepair.com" without the www in front of it?

I dont know what or who you are using.... so i cant answer that but.. you should be doing ONE or the other..not both. most people are used to the www. and if you have been linking this way then make an htaccess file to make the without www. to with the www. That anytime anyone types either one to the browser bar it will render it the same. Google and the other SE wont see it as TWO urls. I think thats the point they are trying to make. Your preference.

On my site I only reference "www.". I used this link http://whois.domaintools.com/demarcoinstrumentrepair.com and this is were I got the info telling me about the redirect. If I really don't need it that is even better.
