    Question Layout question

    Hi everyone.

When designing my website, I have to overlap some of my 'web items' in order for them to appear correctly in the web preview mode. I was wondering if, when published, my website will appear as it does in preview mode or as it is shown on BlueVoda builder.

    Thanks for any help.

    Ben Langlois.

Hi langlois, your pages as far as know, will appear as shown in preview mode, i wil suggest you to give a link to your site, so people can see it and and give you further comments, but in general if they look ok in preview you are in the right way..

    Thanks for the response Julia

I am waiting until I have completed all the design work and have written the content before I publish anything and so I cannot provide a link. It's going to take years but it will be worth it :)

    Thanks again Julia.

    Question Re: Layout question

My home page contains text and tables that all look perfectly placed when I preview but when I publish - they look perfectly placed on my PC but overlap when viewed on other pc's.

Can somebody please tell me where the problem lies?

We can have a look for you but you need to give us the URL of your published page.

A common reason for things displaying differntly is the use of a non-web friendly font.

    No, I don't think so!

Its the formatting on the second page, not the first page that comes up.

If you do - then I've had a look. It looks fine apart from some non-italicised text being placed in the middle of your bulleted list. It needs to be moved down to the bottom.

I also noticed that you are using a very wide page format. Before you carry on I thought I should warn you that this isn't too polular with viewers - they do not like to scroll sideways. The ideal width is 800, centred as this then looks good on whatever size screen it is viewed on. Another popular width is around the 1000px mark.

If this isn't the page you wanted me to look at -please provide the PAGE URL as in www.mywebsite.co.uk/page4.html (example). Although we refer to our front page as 'home' it must always be called index and linked to as www.mywebsite.co.uk/index.html

Let me know if you need any further help :o)

    Hi Amanda,

Thanks for the advice. I'll change the page size although I thought it was just white space on the right side of the screen - so nothing to scroll to.

My front page is www.bucksplans.co.uk/index, my 'second' page is called /home and my 'last' page is called /useful_links.

Its these pages that have problematic formatting

The non italic text shows beneath the italics when I preview and view online via my own pc, but as you can see, it overlaps the text above on other pc's.

Likewise, the dropdown menu's cover the titles above them, 'tho not in preview.

Are you saying it's something to do with my page sizing?

    Thanks again for your assistance

My front page is www.bucksplans.co.uk/index, (for future information - this link is incorrect - you omitted the .html on the end) my 'second' page is called /home and my 'last' page is called /useful_links.

    Lulu.

Your pages are viewed differently by you, I'd guess, because of the size of your monitor and the screen resolution settings you are using. I see two thirds and then have to scroll to read what is in the purple boxes.

The comment I made earlier are actually for your home page. It looks fine - you just have to move things around a little and check in page preview before you publish.

The other pages were ok apart from some things needs nudging here and there. Advice as above.

Try using the 1068 screen resolution setting on your pc - see if that helps. (On pc, >start>control panel>display>)

Good luck and try to remember if you post in future to include a correct and clickable URL, please. :o)
