You an only password protect sub-domains. So create a sub-domain with password protection move anything you want to be password protected into it. This can all be done through the Control Panel and assumes that you already have your hosting account.

Do you want to password protect the entire site or just a section?

To password protect a section- just create a subdomain and then password protect it. Then place the web pages and content that you wish protected in it. You can assign passwords and users to that section.

To create a subdomain- go to cpanel and click on subdomains
