Thread: Banner.jpg TIP for BV'ers

For about two weeks now I have had an issue with mostly BV websites in that I cant see some of your headers unless I sign on to AOL. I just got off the fone with my isp, as this has been driving me INSANE!!

A number of you have called your header pics or your logo pics, banner.jpg
or sosoandsobanner.jpg. My isp blocks those out as a nuisance! ITS A DATED nuisance as I dont think any of those ad zappers or spyware things still call themselves banner anything, but if the picture is named with banner anywhere it in it my browsers block it.

Well unless i sign on aol who lets anyone hack it! :) Just wanted to let you know as it may be an issue with other browsers. Im not sure.. but its drove me INSANE.

And while you're at it - when you change your image names - don't put any spaces in them - as that can cause problems, too.

And while you're at it! .. LOL .. killing myself here laughing .. put _ instead of spaces like Bethers said, and maybe name them like this for example:

example_01.jpg
example_02.jpg

It helps alot! .. and keeps you way more organized.

Actually, since you used my name, I would say that all images should be named based on what's in the picture -or where it's going if you don't care for the image to be picked up easily by the se's in the image searches.

Seriously tho.. mine cant be the only isp blocking this out, as I have Yahoo wireless.. sooo.. I have a feeling it affects anyone using any of the Yahoo SBC AT&T Networks.. so you are talking a pretty good sized group of people and this can affect how your customers view your site.

LOL KAREN!! LOL .. why on earth would you be using Firefox in the first place! Microsoft made a lovely IE7 for you to use on your Windows XP or Vista ..

Yeah, .. thats right! LOL .. trying to bring me down with Mozila Firefox.. ha! lol

By the way this applies to IE 6 and IE 7 on these networks.. I just seen the same thing on my Explorer browser, called them back and confirmed. Its NOT a mozilla issue.

LOL .. Karen, you are the only one to report this problem because I do not know what you are doing for this to happen.

Also, it would take me a longgggggggggggggggggg time to change all the file names. But I will take note of that for the future.

As Karen explained in the first post - in the last couple weeks her ISP - which is a big one - started blocking jpg's with the word banner in them from showing as there has been a big influx of problems with them.

Karen is not doing anything - sounds like you are trying to say it's on her end - when it's not - it's something the ISP is doing.

I am NOT doing anything. I just told you I called the ISP and thats what i was told. Sure enough, every instance of Banner.jpg is NOT showing up. I just picked on your site as an example as you are so pickable! I see other sites just fine.

Perhaps I am the only one who NOTED they were missing images and others just assumed there wasnt an image to be missed. I dont know... I dont care.. but its NO JOKE.

Oh, I know .. but right now, I am not gonna take the time to change it all because you are the only one who reported the problem. Once I update the website I will make sure not to name it 'banner_200x700_01.jpg' and so on.

Its your loss seriously. Im sure I am NOT the only one, as I said. Its NOT just your site either. However, I would think as a pro, You wouldnt want to lose one customer over images or leave a bad impression. <shrug>

For anyone interested, I finally fixed this little issue. By default they assume you download all their "Protection" so your account acts like it has rather you do or not. So I had to download their popup, firewall, and virus programs, go thru all the settings, change them to my specifications, apply them.. And then promptly UNINSTALLED them. Now I can view images and websites like most people!
