Thumbs up Tip! Changing text link colors to all pages at once!

Tip! Changing text link colors to all pages at once!

First you need to have your site setup as php for all pages using Navaldesign’s code found here. This will also help you reduce time by changing one page to affect all of them! It’s extremely valuable when you need to add a link to your navigation menu or other link style you choose without manually adding each link individually to X pages.

What am I talking about? We all know the importance of using text links and having them a different color than the website text color so we have a bunch of hyperlink styles. Well, what if we want to make a change such as adding or removing the underline or changing the color of our text link If we have 50+ pages this can be a real deal of a problem. We are stuck having to manually change every single page. If you have 5 pages big deal, if you have 50+ it will cost you a full day or more!

First, it’s super important to plan your site before you start building it. I know the excitement but please read as many post as you can even if you don’t understand them after some time you will learn things that you need to think about to save yourself from future foreseeable problems…

Ok, let’s assume you have 3+ different hyperlink styles for all your pages. If you ever want the static link to be underline in the future (since you never know, do this), make sure you underline every style you create right off the bat. This will be clear soon. The Trick I found is you do not even need to make any changes to the default styles (if you are just building your site), just make it a name you prefer, all the style options will be underlined for you with the default colors. This is to resolve a little program bug. If you don’t underline it now, later in the “universal” page, which I will get to soon, even if you underline it there, it will not take affect on the static (linked) style. You can remove the underline from the universal page but not the other way around.

So far, all we are doing is making sure all your pages have the same hyperlink name for the same objective. Let’s say you want your links on the bottom of the page to be white but the one in the text you want to be blue, you will create two styles; one white and one blue. When you hyperlink your text, choose the style color you choice for it. Do this to all your pages as you really don’t have a choice since it’s a part of hyperlink. If you already have all your hyperlinks set properly and they all have the same name relevant to their location and objective (the color choice, bold, italic, or underline) and the “linked” (it’s the first of four you choose the style for) is underlined we can go to the next and last phase.

Once all your hyperlink styles are prepared and uniformed as discussed above, we can now move to the “header” page you create using Navaldesign’s code. This is what I called the universal page. Please, do not do this method to each page you are created using navaldesign's code. Choose one, preferably the header page. If you are using a "footer" for links, or the sidebar html for links as well, for those pages you will create their own hyperlink style since they are not connected to the "header" page. This really will not affect your work but do not name anything in the "footer" or sidebar" hyperlink the same as those you'll create in the "header" page.

In the tool bar navigation choose tools à hyperlink. It should not have any styles. Create a new one with your choice of options and name it the same name you named the blue for example. Whatever style changes you make here will take affect to all your text links through your entire website! Just because the style is names blue doesn’t mean the color of that static link (linked) needs to be blue! The name blue is just a name for the specific style. Call it sytle1, style2, whatever but make sure it is not capitalized nor have spaces.

That’s it! Enjoy saving time and playing with the different colors to find the best one that fits your needs! Than change it again when you get bored with it by changing just the hyperlink styles but never change the names of the styles! If you all a new style to your pages, add it to you universal page as well.

Hope you find this helpful,

Adir

p.s.

This is for BV10.12 not BV11! I cannot help you if you are using something that is in it's BETA stage.

Another thing you can do to make your life easier is to put your favicon in just your header page. It will show up on each of your pages!

Just make sure you delete your other favicons from all the other pages if you already have them and would like to use this tip in the future.

If you have yet to add a favicon, and are using the php method for your header, footer, and so forth, this is a great time to easier add one and give your page that extra professional look! Will take 5-10 seconds of your life and will help you brand your business!

If you do not know what the favicon is look at the left side of your window's tab icon or the navigation bar. Do you see that little empty paper?! That the favicon. If you don't add a favicon that empty sheet will be the default. For other sites you'll usually see their logo symbol. It's a great way to expand your logo's awareness.

To create your free favicon check this site: http://www.favicon.co.uk/ and use their easy to use generator.

Happy web building!
