Default How to use BV in my laptop?

Hi there,

I would like work in my laptop. Updating the pages, creating new ones, etc.
I've transfer (coping) to my laptop all the files that I have in my computer and also the icon 'setup' that I have in my desktop when I first installed BV.

The BV installation was ok. No problems. But when I try to open the pages comes up a message: 'file format doesn't exist'.

What am I missing? (or doing wrong?)

Thanks,

Hi, this may sound daft & I maybe reading it wrong. But!
Have you downloaded BV onto you new laptop from vodahost? If so have you copied your files into the BV folder?
If this is still not working, on your lap top, try going to my documents/Bluevoda/ & right click on a BV file & select open with. Then select BV.

Only some ideas,

Hi,
Just a quick additional message to the above good advice, if you wish to transfer files back and forth to each computer and publish from either computer you will need to create identical directory structures on both computers.
Good luck

Thanks guys.

I haven't downloaded it (again) from the net. I have copied it (the exe.) from my pc and instaled it in my laptop - the instalation was ok.
But instead of doing it in the "C:/" (like I did in mu PC) I did it on the "D:/" in my lap top.
That's the only different thing I did. Do you think that's might be the problem. Was that what you meant sea-fisher?

nzbr, this means that you must have BlueVoda installed in the same location on each computer, AND the location of your saved documents must be the same. (by default, BV saves to:

"C:\...\My Documents\BlueVoda"

Q: Did you install BV on your laptop to the "D:" drive?

--possibly, because it wasn't installed into the "C:\Program Files" directory, the file type and associations may not have been registered properly during installation.

--I experienced the same issue when reinstalling BV, and I also chose to install to the "D:" drive. In fact, when upgrading BV to later versions, this brought about even more complicating issues. I personally suggest NOT installing BV in any location other that it's default.

Hi Robert,
Yes, that's what I've done: I installed in "D" in the laptop. Maybe that's why is not working. Will uninstall it and try again.
Thanks,

After a couple hours...Nothing! Now BV is in "C"

Have tried what Chris suggested as well...nothing.

****(C:)>>>Documents and setings>>>nzbr>>>>My Documents>>>>BlueVoda then opens: 'Images' folder and 'Templates' folder and all the pages (right click in one of the many pages available>>>>open with>>>select Blue Voda..then comes up the BV logo and 3 options:
-open new blank page
-open an existing page
-watch the video tutorials

I go in 'open an existing page'. the folders 'images' and 'templates' are there as well as all my pages (exactly same in the PC). I select one of the pages and that's it! comes up: 'Unexpected file format'

Even have the laptop beside the computer to check the position of the files...all in the same position. lol

It's frustrating some times when you are not an expert with computers like me.....will keep trying

Hi nzbr,

One last suggestion, delete BV completely from your laptop then try downloading BV from BV's website direct to your lap top into the default directory.

It it is successful create a new page and save it. Go out of BV then go back in and retrieve the page. If it is all working fine then transfer all your old BV files to the directory where you have created the new page.

This should work.

Are you selecting one of the templates when you choose "open an existing page" by chance?

To make sure that the file type is registered try this:

--Open Windows Explorer by pressing [Windows Logo] + E
--When the explorer window opens select from menu:
Tools>Folder Options
--A dialog box comes up, select the tab labled: File Types

--scroll down and look for the file type: BVP BlueVoda Document
***it should have the BV icon...if it is listed correctly, let me know.****

Hi Robert,

Q: Are you selecting one of the templates when you choose "open an existing page" by chance?

A: This folder is empty

To make sure that the file type is registered try this:

--Open Windows Explorer by pressing [Windows Logo] + E
--When the explorer window opens select from menu:
Tools>Folder Options
--A dialog box comes up, select the tab labled: File Types

--scroll down and look for the file type: BVP BlueVoda Document
***it should have the BV icon...if it is listed correctly, let me know.****

Have done it and found the logo, beside it BVP BlueVodaDocument

Good news?

hmm, open widows explorer again, tools>folder options...file types
--go to the bvp file type again. this time select it and click the "Advanced" button at the bottom.

in the middle there should be 3 entries:

open
print
printo

Select the word "open" and click the "Edit" button on the right...

--When the dialog pops up, where it says "Application used to perform action:" , it should read:

C:\PROGRA~1\BLUEVO~1\BlueVoda.exe /dde

the checkbox should be checked (use DDE)
DDE message: [open("%1")]
Application: BlueVoda
Topic: System

Everything looking like that?

click OK then OK, then close explorer window

seems like everything should work....uninstall bluevoda again and download the latest version (9.1.G) here:

http://support.vodahost.com/index.ph...itemid=1&nav=0

after it installs and then started, begin with a new page, close it out then open a page by selecting File>Open..

see if that makes a difference

Had to get the internet running in the laptop. Then downloaded the new version of BV. Now it's ok.
Thanks a lot for your help!
