    Hi, nice site.
    Somethings to look for:
-"Designer Julie Knight" (you?) is overlapped by text - so its messing up your page.
-The text on the NavBAr seems out of alignment
-Consider page titles, right click page properties to do this.
-The wallpaper is taking a longer time to load and at first glance steals the show. The color combinations are elegant and match the boxes - nice.
-Maybe menus along the bottom of each page. You have to go back home to change rooms.

A lot of work ! You are on your way.

I second Bill.. I actually didnt even notice "Designer Julie Knight" at all until Bill mentioned and I went to look again.

Wallpaper definitely taking long to load.

But the overall concept look nice once the page content is organized and everything positioned right.

can't wait to see more of your work - on your "updates/specials" page the word name overlaps the form and the e-mail text box needs to be stretched so e-mail is on one line --- barefoot sandels page title overlaps first words of body text - all in all a nice site - have fun working on it - we have all re-done and re-done - in fact most of us continue to re-do! ann

I am having a hard time biting my tongue, but can point out 2 aspects that are critically in need of immeditate attention:
    1. Your merchandise images need to be completely re-done.
They lack the definition and detail to even be reasonably useful. Try using the macro lens on your digital camera and 100% more backlight and a neutral (not white or linen) backgroud to get the focus and contrast your creations deserve. 1a. You need to provide as much detailed product info as possible to compensate for image resolution.....
    2. Rethink the layout scheme: your images and merchandise area is too small to elicit the standard responses, let alone inspire transaction.
Maybe the use of a Table would provide you with the alignment and "formatting" that is currently appearing much too freehand and without comformity.

I have more, but the others will probably offer them, so I personally think these 2 issues are so major, they might encompass everything else if you re-engineer the site....I hope I was not too brutal, but you really deserve to hear these main ideas.....

    Julie-
    1. Your page is 1165 wide (too wide even by most generous standards). If you have your computer set at anything above 1024x768, your view will differ dramatically from most others....
    2. Your site loads for me in about 7 seconds, whereas most BV sites load an average 2.5-3.5 seconds (and we all know I have an extremely fast system in VodaLand, proven time and time again by my load reports - I do both IE and AOL).
    3. "Overlapping" of text and objects on the Home Page alone are: at the girl's hip, your "-Designer- Julie Knight" in green lay under main text area, a poor editing miss; your "bubble captions" have an orange "j" floating for no reason, and it is obstructing the text in top caption; your main GLITZZ logo is "short-stacked" over "Original Handmade...." which itself extends too far down OVER your duplicated "copyright" line at bottom; you have another orande "i" floating over your cart in lower left...>>I am starting to think you have all the letters that spell Glitzz floating aimlessly everywhere??<<
    4. You have a useless color icon in the lower left of your Main Frame...why? lose it.
    5. Every one of your product image frames are different sizes....you should have selected ONE and simply pasted it continuously for each....(this is evidenced by the same text extending past one border and not others)

Every detail matters, and in such a small contained, linear design such as yours, proportion and scale is paramount to viewer comfort....the sub-conscious eye picks everything up that is not symetrical, and is thus prone for visitors to simply bail if professional appearance is not even attempted....

We ALL see these things (and more), so I am surprised you are so astounded! We do not like to be the harbringers of bad news, nor to appear nitpickers, but there are a lot of simple issues that need addressing in your site before you should go live.....

im trying to tell you that its showing up fine in my browser and i wanted to know why that would be not a list of all the problems again.. this is the reason why i said i obviously would have fixed these things if i could see them but i cant!

you are literally bringin me to tears... you have no idea how hard iv wroked on this to have someone tell me they see a complete mess and basically saying the whole site is a waste of time.your being crazy errogant about it.. your advice is not helping because its insulting in tone. All i wanted to know what how to fix the browser setting so i can see what you see..

What part of i dont see what you see dont you get.. why would i have floating letters all around on purpose? I had been previewing the entire thing all the way through until i saw perfection.

My computer is set to 1024x768

how do i change the page size from 1165, and what should it be?

Relax! We are here to give you reports of what we see, and to offer a wider perspective than we can have as individuals.....you know that! We have all gone throught the trials and tribulations of getting used to BV and strained until almost blind nights on end trying to create what we thought was simple, only to learn how to enhance our original vision, again, and again....

In your desktop, go in My Computer then Control Panel....click on Appearance & Themes >> DISPLAY...then select the SETTINGS....see the little arrow slide? move it to the right until you get to 1024x768, click ok, apply, ok, etc. You just reset your browser & desktop to the new standard of display....now revisit your site and tell ME if you see the same things....(I'll wait)

If your computer IS set to 1024x768, and you still cannot see the issues, try Refreshing your browser....maybe you have an older page version cached....
If you STILL cannot see the items mentioned, then I have no clue as to what suggested solution to offer from there....Hmmm. Got me on that one, Julie!

Changing your page size (I am beginning to suspect) is not the real issue, as I am assuming you are using a larger image to act as a background.....and if that image is set at 1165 wide, then that is fine -- you might want to actually resize your background image to 1650 (to perform better under all settings), reimport it in BV, righ-click it once, and "SEND TO BACK".....it will lay under everything else as if nothing was changed...

And as far as why we see the floaties?? I dunno....really I dunt....

    Hi Glitz,

Dont get upset, your doing a great job and your website design is really lovely, I like it very much as I do your jewelry ..which i might add looks fine on my screen.....but you do have a big sideways scroll ..if you click on the link below and follow each step to the letter this will fix it for you....it might feel a bit strange working in such a small area but beleive me it will be worth it ...also the overlapping could be due to a non web friendly font ....if you do a forum search for web friendly font i'm sure there will be a thread on this but if all else fails ...google it :o)

Hope this helps .....oh and you can use the pixresizer tool to make your wallpaper quiker to load ..:o)

    Nice job

Julie.. I understand your frustration.. And everyone here, without exception feels the same for you.. One of the things that might affect the way things look on a page is the actual browser and the styling method you use.. Without going into detail, about 92% of ppl use Microsoft Internet Explorer.. Some times, when you build a page, things can look different when they are displayed by other types of browsers.. My page did not look alligned when viewed by a Mac.. It was the styling method I used which Mac didn't support.. Would be a good idea if you tell us what type of browser you are using.. Vasili is quite correct when he mentions the screen resolution effect on the size of the images displayed... this could be a problem, but at the same time, this should reduce or enlarge the entire display without modifying its positioning. I have a feeling that it is a browser issue since you are the only one that is unable to see these things...
Adds a new meaning to the word 'Minority'... Unlike earthly cultures, at BlueVoda Minorities are offered help.. I am one of those myself.. so chill and things will get sorted.

Hi, I'm sorry but the only way to go is to use a web-friendly font. Your special one will only work if viewers have the same one installed on their own pcs. You could, however, make your text, using the special font, as images in Paintshop or something similar. Then you would insert them into your page as regular images and people would see what you intended.

This is the Advice of my housemate Amanda (girlonthehill)who is sat across the room from me lol ...hope it helps :o)

that woulda been helpful before.. seeing as thought every font i used was a downloaded one I didnt know it mattered.. so what you are seeing is probably nothing near to what it should be looking like.. there is no way to use the fonts i want? no way to program them in somehow so people can see them?

ok thankx everyone.. the biggest problem right now is the fonts.. thats what ill deal with first. im going to have to sacrifice a lot of the theme changing it and am going to be really unhappy with the outcome as all the fonts i used have a quirky vintage theme i dont know how ill replace them and keep the look.. We'll see though. ill also try and fix the background width and size so it loads better.

thankx again ill post again soon once i get that done and see if theres any improvment for yall.

Oh Julie! I just came back to this thread this morning and just want to give you a big cyberhug! I know what you mean completely! You have a vision of how you want the site to "feel" and worked hard to achieve it only to find out you have to "start over" on some things! BUT i want to tell you I admire that you dove in and tackled the job! I spend so much time reading, worrying, overanalyzing everything before I even get started, that I take forever to get anything accomplished! SO i want you to pat yourself on the back for a FABULOUS start....take a deep breathe and continue doing what you are doing...fixing the "issues" step by step, one at a time.

You are right....the FONTS you chose affect EVERYTHING! It is a BUMMER to be restricted. The second thing is the page size (width of the actual page, not the monitor setting)---fix those two things and then you will be able to fine tune the rest.

Now, if there are places that you want to keep the special font, such as in your logo, your buttons, etc. you can do this with a little extra "work." Build your logo, buttons, etc. with your special font in Photoshop or Paintshop or whatever photo editing program you use. Save them as gifs or jpegs, whichever look the best to you, at the lowest resolution possible (72dpi if you can) and the smallest size possible. Then, when you layout your pages, insert them (like shapes) where you want them. That will keep your fonts EXACTLY how you want the reader to see it.

Then you only need to choose a webfriendly font for the actual text you type in BV. Just choose something like Ariel that is plain and simple. Then your cool font images will really shine!!

Regarding your product shots, they are still loading! (I'm on dial up and it is painfully slow). I will take a look later. REmember, you need to design for the average internet user....and most of them are on dial up and have small screens.

By the way, what browser do you use?

    Cool Re: Finally up!

Thankx Islandcrazy, I really appreciate your kind words they are helping me along with some other peoples post to relax a little... Im going to deal with the problems today starting with page size and font.

There is no point in visiting the site until I make my changes today.. Ill let everyone know when I have done that. until then dont waste your time it will look the same.

Hi again, hang in there - we have all been driven crazy by things other people could see and we could not. i have rebuilt and rebuilt one page to fix something i couldn't and still cant see - i.e. letters overlapping. no one mentions it anymore so i hope it is fixed. bv makes things easy but sometimes easy isnt enough it just amounts to persistence and tweaking. tweaking, tweaking! even after the site is done you read or see something new or different and back to building again. your doing great - love the calendar girls. ann

Hi Glitzz! Please try not to get offended..I do understand as Ive been through the same feelings. I worked very hard on my site and all proud to have everyone see it and well, at the time and as a sensitive maybe a bit hyper sensitive I read all the critiques as insults...I wanted so to hear wow great job...well although that is in the back of everyones minds (unfortunatly) what seems more important is the correctness of how the site looks to others...
And you can admit and I had to after wiping the tears away, I am glad to know that there is an issue and the caring people here dont want you to have your site not looked at by others the way you want them to see it.
Its not just that its "perfect" on your screen and browser, its more important that its viewable to all of the potential customer out there. Myself I have three browsers now that I have a look at when Im judging my looks.
I find that I have the most problems with IE or AOL..lol...I love my firefox..its alway nice to my site!...hehe
Now with aol and ie, I can see that your words arent aligned as our wonderfully sweet bookworm Vasili has stated or overstated, hes only trying to help, he doesnt want to discourage. But there is issues there...
Now on my favorite firefox, the second page is aligned wonderfully, the first is still a bit jumbled..and page loading is slow...
These arent to critisize, they are a way to help you with making your site the best it can be!
And I want to end with ... I personally think your site is really cool. I love the 50's girl style...great idea!...I think after we get you all aligned..your going to be very happy with the results as youve already come up with fantastic ideas!....
good luck and email me if you want some advice..actually lincs knows more!....lol...but Im nice tooo!....hahaa..

Trust me I know what constructive critisism is I took university level art courses all through high school and I work as a graphic designer.. its basically all I hear.. I wasnt really crying LOL i was having an emotional breakdown.

I just didnt see why whats his face had to talk that way.. he came off as pompas and errogant like he was dissgusted with the site or something..

n e ways who cares about that now..

I fixed up the main page.. how bout letting me know how its lookin before I go on to the 100 others!! Im planning to make the buttons custom in the future but for now i just want things to work.. i made the screwy up text images so now yall can see what i was seein!

thank you all for your kind words and encouragment i needed it. ill be fixing up the other pages today for as long as it takes me so please ignore those for now they wont be any different.

oh one other thing.. people were complaining about the pictures.. one thing in case yall didnt know when you click on the image from the main merchandise page for example earrings.. it takes you to the items personal page you can then click on that image again.. which gives you a larger version again did yall reaslise that? my boyfriend, friends, other people from other sites that i know said there images are pretty much the same.. I thought after maybe people didnt realise that was a thumbnail...

Also Vasali or whatever said there was a colour icon at the bottom of the main page and to lose it... thats my sitemeter icon.. i wont "lose it" because its the counter to my site..

I use internet explorer by the way..

No worries...didnt mean anything by my statements hon, just doing my best attempt to have you feel more comfortable..thas all..
Now on firefox, its fantastic! everything in perfect order..
    AOL its still jumbled..
    IE - perfect!!!!.......
    cool good job girl!
ignore what I personally see on AOL tho as I know that when Im updating my site, seems aol takes a while to catch up...so there is a vote of two and more than likely three!...three out of three is a good thing!...
Very good...Id say keep on doing what your doing!...
like I said I personally have all three so as I can check on all of them. I have been told that IE is the one that most use and to go by that..so I just try my best with that one!
If you dont want your stats counter visible there are invisible ones. If you want to grab one let me know.

FABULOUS! AWESOME! LOVE IT! Your homepage looks GREAT! I have IE and a very slow dial-up and it popped up MUCH MUCH better and looks wonderful! I love the way you did the fonts....before I couldn't even see them, just letters scattered around...but you know that (font issue) LOL! I'm so excited for you! You have accomplished much today!

Now...regarding the pages with your photos...I for sure wasn't saying those were bad....i was just saying I couldn't even see them....because after 3minutes of loading the "earrings" page, I had to give up because there was only a tiny bit of your wallpaper loaded (which is AWESOME btw) and the empty boxes, text, prices. So, I can't really say about the photos themselves, but I did realize they were thumbnails.

Ulitimately you have to build a site that YOU like ... but of course, one that can be viewed by most people. I think you are going to have an AWESOME site.....the home page alone is unique, charming and very, very well designed.

Just get that load time down on your wallpapers and I think the rest of your battle will be tiny!!! You deserve some CHOCOLATE!!!!!

THANKX that makes me feel a lot better!! i wasnt refering to you two when i was talking about the site counter or the pictures...I have that site counter cause i like it lol and i have the option with sitemeter to show the hits but i like that icon better.. someone had said "whats that colour icon in the corner lose it" i was just explainin why it was there.. wasnt towards you.. :D it was also other peoples posts that were saying the pictures were to small and had bad res or whatever I was just sayin i wasnt sure if they thought that because they were viewing the thumbnail as the actual picture instead of clicking on it to make it bigger. The pictures might be loading slow for you because they are high res pictures.. not sure if i should change that tho.. I havnt got to the merchandise pages yet. ill takle those now that i know the main sites are ok..

thankx again ladies.. this is a womans site anyways why are all these guys worryin bout it!??!!? get lost men!

OK GUYS! She really didn't mean it!!! Honestly...please don't go away.....we need you and like you!! She just meant that it's a girly store....she is just in SHOCK from having to redo her entire site!!!!! Hee hee hee!!!

Now Julie, you know in the end, you will be glad "the guys" pointed out the problems....i am very good at cheerleading...and not so good at tech support...we each have to do what we are good at....so as hard as it is...listen to them and then eat more chocolate!! LOL LOL

Eventually you will have to address the photo sizes...you will loose alot of customers if they have to wait too long. But don't worry, run a few of them through the pixresizer to shave off some extra pixels and you will have a dramatically faster site.........AND MORE SALES!!!

Please add your url to your signature in your forum control panel, it makes it much easier for us lazy folks to view your site.

    Lincslady:

Don't know about you, but the mental image of island in a monagramed sweater pleated skirt and pom poms with steel drum cheer song had me rolling on the floor.

    Islandcrazy:

You have been a lot of help to this forum, and you are far more help than a cheerleader, and I'm sorry but as cute as you may be the mental image
was ugly, very funny but ugly.

well, well, well, circus.....see if i ever defend the "men" again! ROFL ROFL ROFL! My children would be HORRIFIED by your cheerleader vision!!! They HATE when I "cheer" from the bleachers at soccer games! I have to correct you, though...i do NOT have any pompoms!!! Just a VERY LOUD VOICE. I have been known to jump up and down so wildly when my kids make a penalty kick, that I have.....on occassion.....well, just once....a tiny bit.... peed my pants! LOL LOL There, that will REALLY keep you laughing!
