Default Published a few pages till now - need feedback

    Hi everybody

Am from Mauritius. Launching a site new to the country. Having some problems with the display. Small boxes with "X" appearing on some pages.

    Can any body help please.

Any feedback on the general appearance also welcomed.

Will be launching it officially by next week. Local newspaper will report on it.

    URL: www.jobsalert.org

    Thanks

Hi, The red "X" normally means that the code is looking for an image that it can't find. Just a tip, always insert an image or a menu on a new page - never copy and paste. I am not saying that this is necessarily the cause, but it may be.
Try this. Delete the 2 images from your page, and republish. See if the red "X"'s disappear. If they go away, then reinsert them and all should be OK.
If they don't go away, then all I can suggest, is that you redraw the page from scratch. (You can copy and paste text)
Don't worry, you will redo the pages many times before you are happy.
I would suggest that you keep the page width to 800 pixels, just for the many out there who still have old monitors. Scrolling from side to side can be irritating. People don't mind the up and down scroll.
Your site is clean and neat, just as it should be for your business.
    Keep up the good work
    Regards

Here's something the best of us forget to do...link your pics to your pages....otherwise they may not appear....also make sure Hotlink protection is turned on in your cpanel.

    Hi Everybody

Thanks a lot for your advice.

I tried something else to get rid of the red Xs. I set blank on the link option for the pics. Now it's ok.

Do have a look at the site and advise on how it can be made better.

This forum is indeed a great space to share ideas.

    Keep it up VODA HOST.

    Thanks

    Nice site,
    Clear easy to navigate.

    Hi everybody

    My site is manageable now.

    I need advice on :

    (1) how to put a hit counter on a page
    (2) how to put a search facility on a page. Tthe facility shall only search a word or part of a word on a page only.

    Thanks a lot.

    Regards

    Hi

Your site looks good. There are a couple of pages that I had the left to right scroll bar which can be frustrating for people. On your contact us page - have you thought about putting a form on here as well as your phone number and email? This way it makes it easier for people to contact you.

I think you site looks great though - I like the colors and it looks professional - great job!

    Hi JR,
Like the style of your site. Clean & simple, but professional looking.
The only parts that are hard to see is the bottom menu is very faint & can only just see it on my screen. I know it a mouse over but it was only my mouse that found it?.
The only other thing was that your text was a bit small for my eyes. Especially in the drop down menus. Let someone else confer this as it may be my old eyes on there way out.

    Good luck.

    Chris.

    Hi,
I like the general look of the site, nice and calm colours! The pictures were all there but there is still a small sideways scroll.
I also found that both articles come up page not found - check the links.
I've read on a couple of other reviews that counters are considered a bit out of date now - I think there was a cp solution offered but I can't find the review...maybe someone can repeat the advice?
Got no idea on a search facility - I'm still a newbie too!! Good luck with your launch.

    Hello everybody

Thanks to all of you for the help and encouraging words.

I've created a page which i'm actually testing at http://www.jobsalert.org/jobseekers_postresume1.html . I'm usually the form to push data to be read by the email.

I've made all the required settings in CP and also in Outlook express.

    The problems are:

    (1) When I click on submit from the form, the outlook express - new message window opens up to enter data. I suppose this should not be like that as all data were already entered in the form.

    (2) I even sent a mail (using my personal mail ID) to the email ID that is accessed by the webmail program. Even here I'm having problems as "No new message(s)" appear when in fact the mail was sent and did not bounced back.

Anyone can try the URL given above to check and advise. Please.

    Thanks a lot & Regards

    Rishi

-Consider staying away from counters - not cool anymore
-There are several search scripts, look a the posts, some search fucntions you pay for in exchange for no ads.

I think it is extremely important to keep your visitors on "your site". This being said, I found it very difficult to get back to your site after clicking on one of your links that took me to another site. The reason, I was so interested in the new site information that I ended up clicking here and there and had to back click about 8-9 times just to get back to your site.
My suggestion is to create a link to other sites that open up in a new window, so that you site is just "one" click away, thus easier to get back to...
Good looking site by the way....

You can get a statcounter for free here with no advertising. www.statcounter.com

I like your site and the colors, check some of your punctuation and center your pages to make it look more professional. On one of your pages you have a burgundy/wine colored writing and then red, I like the burgundy/wine color better. BlueVoda offers a few templates in those colors as well. Not sure about the search facility you are talking about. Is it a Google or Yahoo search or something else?
