Thread: Different..? what'd think

I changed the site quite a bit. You now choose beween Tabasco and Chiapas at the portal and then I changed the color scheme. It looks o.k. on my screen but....? ontact us links do not work, nor all but the la ruta del cacao in the tobasco itinerary page. What about color navigation and I know it loads slow on dialup but I've tried to work with the size.

Loaded well on netscape and colors are very pleasing and peaceful and inviting.
Links seemed to be fine...Aviancasbanner at bottom of secon itinerary place was below 'off the page' in Netscape...might be Ok in other browsers. On the 8 day itinerary..second I think...the writing went into the dark blue box...it looked fine and no conflict with pictures but wasn't sure if you had wanted it that way.

I love your site as my new travel service is for something jsut liek that but in JA...hope you don't mind if I pick your brain later...lol
Wish you were in Cancun...have some people who want personalized tours and guides...maybe I can convince them to come to you...hmmmm

The only problems I had were with some of the side links.. 'Contact us' and 'Giving back' werent working all the time.. most times though so maybe its just my computer.. I like the colours though, very peaceful.

Choco .. it looks ace :) I Have a recommendation for you though. If you use a darker green on the background the main body will stand out much more effectively. Yours looks good, mine is just an idea :)

The email shouldn't even be be up, whoops. Thanks though I was originally going to put a regional map on the portal instead of foto. U think it is better in portal or as a hyperlink somewhere maybe on itinerary page where I plan to add insurance info, although here we are not allowed to reccomend it????? and travel advisories US government.

I was hoping that there was gaming, had possible idea for two couple here who travel constantly, to g to Ja. BUT they are so much into gambling,(NONE HERE wish the gov would do it here too), they would rather go to Atlantic city or Lake Tahoe,...go figure.

Hey if you need help with spanish translation let me know..mine isn't too bad and I have a close friend from Peru who can translate if you need...German too...she does translation work...her italian not too bad and her husband (my friend also ) is Russian...so lots of tanslation services if you need.

I speak fluent choco spanish, the spanish here is always mistaken for So Amer. accent. Had nothing to do with my spelling though. Here they speak what some in north call Carribean Spanish because of the Cuban and Island influences, but I hear alot of chontal-maya mixed w/spanish.. Choco here is what all people are, they contend they coined chocolate because all Tabasaquenan are choquitos, so they say it was choco to chocolate. I have trouble mispelling, not that I cannot spell or speak the language it is at times I think faster than these fingers move. My key board also sticks on a,c o and it will take me 3 mos to get another. We are at a disadvantage that way only here and in Chiapas sometimes they won't ship here amazon.com and the like. No ups,DHL. more than u wanted to know..............

I wonder if we ship to you guys...we have different courier services...and we have everything in Ja if you need. HAve friends who can probably help you out if you need.

Also never too much info...I love hearing about other cultures...it's soooo fascinatiing.

Yep, except nothing happens when you click on it and it is way too small for curious cartographers....or tired eyes.

Actually Bill hasa good point and might I add that a sort of here you are and here are popular places in Mexico and surrounding areas makes the visualization even more eciting for the visitor. I like knowing where I'm going (if it's new) in comparison to other more popular places I've heard off or know better. Makes me really get an idea and think of the adventure....justa thought ...lol..:)

I guess more than pictures I would like to see a map like the one below and then you could highlight your two regions and when visitors click they can be taken to that page. Ok, then, FINE.
If the map was made just 20%(?) smaller, it could slide up the page a little and a little more to the right, which would give a left page border effect too.

And, I would take out the "click to enter" prompt, and instead align your smaller T and C pix alongside the edge of the map.....to make the link more obvious, I would "color code" the Names on the map to be the same color as the links under each smaller picture - everyone can tell it's a link by being underlined (and I would double my efforts just to be safe by also linking each image just as the text link - for those that expect to link that way instead): people will be able to see the relationship much clearer, and it lightens up the page without so much visual "clutter"....can you see what I mean?

YES. Compact the menu. Adds to a much tighter, cleaner look. Remember to duplicate perfectly (keep in exact same place) on all pages for continuity.

On your Tobasco Main, the menu actually lays over the top picture.

Itinerary page. No, keep them: they are the last of the drill-in for this set of pages, and spells out initially how detailed and professional you are. However, you need to re-position your text areas narrower to fit properly on your page "borders" (I suggested you bring them in, and you went out instead! LOL) *Remember, people will scroll down happily when they are examining something they want to (took them how many clicks to get here? = interest), but scrolling sideways or seeing mish-mosh layouts are very no-no.

If the T and C pyramid pix were the same size as the waterfall is wide, they can "stack" alongside the map (which will have to be made smaller, and no taller than your 2 pictures....)

See the black line that runs from one pix to the edge of the map? Re-do this with color-coded lines to actually "point" to the location on the map, show you can "place" the location to the map....again, link the image and the text the same.

Honestly, Your map should not be larger thant the combined 2 location pictures...they are your core idea and draw. The map is only a convenience for reference, nothing more.....

It will give you a much better feel to see it rather than read it. Of course, it is just a suggestion, and is missing details and exact proportions. And your background. And your professional expertise. And....LOLOL

cannot reprouce the line even in it is a rect. reduced mouse won't move such a small distance very jerky. how can it be a test hyper link in green aren't they all in blue per the pg props? Whoops never mind got it

I simply changed "properties" on images, adding an outline.
The "Line" is a shape, same color as the basic image outline. Trial and error reducing shape to needed line size - if impossible, enlarge the image outline to match instead...

You can add same colors for the links in Styles, and remember, I would also hyper the images along with the text and >>'s (for the >text> links, once the colors are set, I would also check the italic rollover also so they see action) **Hopefully, the link Styles will set....sometimes when the index page styles create a "force-default" on interior pages, usually if they are cloned...try it to see...
IF ALL ELSE FAILS, simply keep the "Details" the right color, and link only the >> with a rollover...maybe then having two >> makes sense to visitors with the image also linked with everything color-coded....

On second thought....the actual links style/color doesn't matter....it's the emphasis on the location-image-intro text as the central idea to the page.
(All the text on top introduces Tabba, quickly distinguishes you and the "offer" and immediately provides options to deliver details promised above....
Try it...you'll like it! Going back into hiding now....

por the logo that is from toursbymexico or viste mexico they are involved with gov. afraid to use their ideas. They persue infringements cuz they can and cuz of big friends. nice tho. See you can tell that the gov has something to do with the map...no tabasco or chiapas..Tabasco largest oil state in republic don't want to have to many people interferring with their drilling and pollution,rather just deal wth indians.

The photos I plucked are royalty-free, and generic enough for you to use. (They are Guatemala, though) I just wated to find some "touristy" pix.

Same for the map.....If you look closely, it is a slightly older version approved by the tourist board, and it is NOT controlled. It is simply something the Gov't does to promote the industry, and is being used within the intended purposes.....

how bout if I wen with #2 and instead of map I put text to link to a map of mexico that I already have use other maya photos plus the agua azul falls. Really like the text does the phrase satisfaction guaranteed have teeth, not that I doubt what I can do but there is always one.............

Sent you the email. Then this version 3 would be to replace the portal page and the rest of the pages stay? Would the color scheme not matter with the 3a page being white which I like actually. All the links then just link them to my pages now.

These "Main" pages are your "Splash" pages....best foot forward and all that......since you have everything already saved, cloning the main (stripped of everything except the finalized links, headers, etc.) and COPY > PASTE each page elements is not too hard....just remember to FIRST SAVE your originals simply adding a number to the end of the name (chiapas1) before you name the replacement. That is, IF you want to have a conformity of your site that indicates a professional operation.

I will open my Outlook now (been avoiding it successfully all day). If I cannot send everything in a folder, I will re-send as single attachments. When you get them, create a folder to save it to from the email...this way, neat and clean, separate from your work too.

I guess it's true after all.....

Check the text I wrote in the last version...your "duplication" is jumbled up, and lacks the refinement necessary.
It is good to see you added some text about t an C...

To "pull" the background off the web, simply right click it as well....save as backgroud. Then in BV Page Props, set "image" as background...Poof!

Obviously, you will have to change the Chiapas picture.....are you up to it? Just remember to re-size it via the pix resizer rather than manually: you can match the exact size to the tabasco pix that way. And in the same way you can see the color to use as a border at 2pt. (I purposely picked the dark green without any variations)
And...add the appropriate hyperlinks to the images, text links, and the 'Menu" in the upper left (I think I listed all you intended). **HINT You may also wish to start thinking about linking your logo on the top of every page as a "return" to your Portal...it is becoming standard practice nowadays...

We need to be thankful to David for getting this to you, which makes it a lot easier for you, I know! (I still don't know why I am being officially blocked by your server...unless it's because it's from a ".com"????)

I changed th blocks on me mail last night. Only two were blocked something like sowestbell and surprisingly david.
I deleted both and added your name to may e mail directory. Did u rec. an email last nite? Nothing from David today when is this to go down of has it. All the links for co ntact are up I think to contactus.html that is the one he said he installed. I tried ...nothing...he tried got confirmation but I rec. no info.

I got your email the other day, but nothing overnight.
I sent to David (and he confirmed forwarding around 3:30 PST) today all the files: 3 emails of images - so they would go through being smaller emails; 1 email with four BV files.

I was so pleased to finally do this too.....I made last-minute edits, preparing it so you only had to change out a picture and do the links....

If you don't get them....try emailing him to re-send to you (since my emails are .com based). Other than that, I dunno. Off to a meeting, back to VH on Sunday!

Well......I know that the links for the itineraries do not all work, the ones that lead no where are not finished. The others I think are working?????? Can you navigate this site. The info that shows thru links is dependent on the state you are searching i.e. chiapas windows open link to info about chiapas, unless there is a link button at the top such as on

The only thing I can ever really comment on right now with my very limited knowledge about websites is on a visual aspect. I always think that images are really important as they explain the things that words can't and excite the viewer immediately making them want to look further and read the text and your images are stunning and exciting. They make you want to 'be there'!

thanks. It is nice here all this except Cancun and Yucatan is within an hour or two from my front door. The heat is the only negative, but with the positives one can handle it. Ever try a Maracuya Margarita? Maracuya is a fruit native to Brazil but grows here, it is a cross of citrus,texture of Mango and a hint of passion fruit, with Tequila wow!

You are on for the drinks. Since there won't be much on Villa until next summer I just associated it with Tabasco
as that page is really the home page more or less for Tabasco. Can you navigate it easily or do you become lost?
I tried to link everything to it's own particular state, except for the obvious about us, travel policy ,contact.

you've got a bit of sideways scrolling happening on the main page, probably just need to readjust that page again, I find myself having to do that alot. I did get a little confused with the home page, as expected to come back to the index page as the home page when I clicked on that from another page ... not sure if that is good or bad? Linking everything to each state is a great idea I think, will help those interested in that particular state stay on task ....

Great website, but on the home page and the about us page, there's a box with a red cross, signifying that the picture can't be found, try uploading it again.
Also in the map page, why don't you try using this code:

It will create a link on the country names on the map. and when clicked they take you to more information. It will be quite cool.

hi again, love your travel tips page - on your Chiapas page tour 1 the word FROM is right over other words also the word name needs to be lined up with rest of letters no tour 2 or 3? know what you mean about the showcase button - thats why i put it at the bottom - just a suggestion instead of some pages with button previous page and some with button back - why not stick with one or the other on all pages

Can you see3 red xs on any page. lost 200+ pixs during power outage last week...I attribute it to that as they were deleted when power came back yet continued to show on my computer as they still do...tried to repair traditions page
