My first ever site. I wanted some feedback from some people in the know before I let friends family and the wider world know so please let me know what you think

Still got a bit to do for article and photo content, a banner missing on resources and got to proof read again. Other than that it's pretty much there. If it's the knid of thing that interests you sign up to the forum and get posting....

You've done a really good job with navigation, scheme, organization, colours, creativity, etc., good for you .... there is just one thing that stands out that you need to consider fixing and I hope you do not find it a big job, and that is you have "sideways scrolling" happening on your pages ... meaning the width of your page has been built somewhat too large ....

the usual size of a page is '800, this prevents sideways scrolling for everyone, although some are experimenting with 1000' width, so you are on your own there to decide ..... but you need to correct this, people do not mind scrolling downwards on a page, but sideways is a bit of a pain.

Great job, links working, those that I tried, you seemed to have linked keywords for your site here and there, that is also great!!

Very nice site. I will be using it in the future for travel info.

But I agree with Lady Eye. Narrow down your pages for easy browsing. If you did, the photo on the first page left would be shaper and less pixelated in a smaller size. She likes the 800 size, but I kind of go for the 900. Yet, either way I think you will like it better.

I haver reduced the page width to 1000. If it's any narrower I think it gets a little cramped, but before it was 1500 so it's a significant reduction and hopefully should appear ok on most screens. I have a large monitor, so it was ok on mine before. lol I also centre the pages

The main photo on the homepage looks *****er now as well and I have also updated the links.

You are going to receive a lot of suggestions regarding page width, ultimately it is your decision. However, when putting something on the internet, it is a good idea to keep your users in mind, if you don't know that they all have large monitors or have them set at higher numbers, you may lose some users.
Consider making the picture on your home page smaller and move the text margin to fit. Use PixResizer for your image.

page width is good on my large screen - my site is about our trip to So America in a motorhome a while back will keep checking this

I have reduced the width to 1000, but need to check it out on some standard screens to see if it is ok. May drop it down to 800 still.

Going to be adding articles and photos as often as possible to build up the content, and the forum will start to fill once I have spread the good word.

Screen size won't have anything to do with the 1000 width (which is what I now use also). It all depends on how people have set their resolution. I've found about 5-10% of my users have 800 resolution still - but that % isn't enough for me to go back down on my sites - and hasn't effected my sales.

However, it all depends on the kind of site you have. And if your users are ok with it. There are sites that wouldn't want to do what I've done - and shouldn't. In your case, it's entirely a personal decision as I don't see your sight being used for income? Unless I missed something.

Ditto the above, but the pix of Brazil and Peru are also stretched along with the Toucan, it just tooo dark. Like it as per content. joined your forum, be back to check it out.
