Thread: Frist attempt at a web site please take a look

Hello and Merry Christmas.

This is my frist atempt on a web site. I am a pore speller and will take no offence on corections :). I'm haveing trouble with one link that i know of it's the last picture on the does page, if you can help that would be great. Please let me know what you think about my site thank you hope to hear from you.

Firstly there are some obvious spelling mistakes on the front page. You need to put it through spell checker as I have only looked at the home page. Mistakes are in red. Also I had no idea that there was any links on the home page, I would suggest putting them down the side or using a menu bar, as being in a horizonal line it is very hard to know they are there.

thank you for the addvice i have fixed the spelling and highlighted the linked in the same colors i personaly like them where they are but please take a look again and see if it's more pleaseing. thank you again .

-Karel is right, definitely suggest you write everything first in Word or a program with a spell checker. NavBar: Arge_ment, haulling, too many mistakes makes your site look bad.
-The Navbar is bunched togther, spread it out a bit. Click on properties and give it more space.
-Your pages are titled but could use more detail, example "Angora Goats - Windameer Farms"

Thank you Bill I just got done copy and pasting to a word programe oto corect it all i think it's done right now. Did you meen to do the Navbar like i changed it to on the home page?

Yes, that helps users identify the NavBar menu.

I'm still having trouble with the one pic link on the does page pic of peony i have tried deleating the file and uploading again still isn't working. I also need help with seting up a pay pal cart on my pruduct page. if anyone can help please do . if i have added this to the wrong form i'm sorry.

Jolen, have you already signed up with PayPal? There is a code that you will need to copy into your product page (html).
Where is the pic you are having trouble with? You might wnat to refresh your PC F5 several tiems and check it again.

Yes i have had a pay pal account for years now. haveing trouble seting up the page for it al that's why it's black lol. the picture is of the white goat at the bottom of the doe page on the right side the picttures on the animal pages are linked to info about them.

finaly got the picture link working .

looks good as far as i can see still a few spelling errors i use ispell checker its a free program or if you was to write something here on post you will see ABC with a check click on that and if you don't have ispell it will send you to the place to download it once you install it you will need to shut down all explorers for it to take effect then all you have to do is highlight ALL words in preview and right click go to ispell Check and it will check it all out for you and you will see your misspelled words.

Thank you Bill. I corected those now :). I tried adding a buy it now to the product page but i don't know it it works. Is there Away to linkk a count of items sold? like if i have 15 it will deduct one if it sells and say 14 and when it gets to 0 it just stays 0 avaible?

You can't do that deduction with paypal - you'll need to keep records and remove the product when it's out of stock.

As to the buy now button - you need to go to your paypal account - give it the information for the product - and paypal will give you the code for the buy now button. You can (if you can understand the code) modify it for each other product - or reenter the information at paypal for each product and copy and paste the code into an html box by each product.

There is a way to keep an inventory count, I have not used a countdown but someone here may be able to help. Do you really need it?

Bill if you scrool all the way down the page and hold you mouce over the Sales Agreement the last one says products that it the page.

Lambs under the sheep button and Kids under the angora goat button, also on the product page i added links to the pic's Please let me know if there all working.

double check your spelling "coming" not comeing.

I love your site, your goats are so cute, (nice too that you don't eat them)

I like your work, your template, I love your header with the goats pictures nestled in, really really nice, your colours, your nav bar on the cagba site I really like too. There's a few things I might have done differfently, and that would be to have the color throughout it all, can't say i like the green on the windameer site, you have alot of pages though, alot of work to change that, wouldn't wish that on anyone ... I might have worked the nav bar a little differently on that site too .... I really like the nav bar style on your cagba site ....

You have a redirecting going on on all pages except www.cagba.org on the events link, the redirect goes from a page of links to the calendar page, not sure if you wanted both visible or not ...

I'd consider the wording on my www.windameer.com page
Maybe to look more like this maybe, also the addition of a logo for windameer like you have for cagba would also be nice .....

The cabga site is not mine it the Colored Angora Goat Registery site the only thing i have to do with that site is my goats are registered threw them, i added the link so people can look at more info if they want. thank you for your sujestions what color do you think would be better? i just picked tha out of the air you could say lol.

I'', thinking of addeding in a form page to have a name the lambs pole lol just for fun .

I changed the colors of the Frist page please let me know if that is a better color. thank you. i know alot of people don't like green lol.

I apologize, most of my comments were directed towards the site which is not yours. I see you have removed that link from the middle of your main page, that is the one that made me go into the other site from yours, so this is a good thing, I had taken the landing page as an entry page into your site, thinking it was an add-on domain, and it was merely a link to another site, so sorry to confuse you ....

i thought it may have been because of that link so i took it out and just left it one the animal pages. i like there banner too but don't know how to do it lol. i just got done adding the lambs to the sales pages . The pic's there are close ups of them if you want to took . babies are always cute lol.

Google has not yet indexed your site - but you'll get it indexed faster by having a link to it in your forum posts than by submitting to them :)

How do i put a link on my posts?

Why don't you make a signature - go into user cp and put it in. Or, if you only want it in some posts - type your name in the post - then click on the green navigation link in the quick reply box - and put in your url there - and you'll have your link in that post.

Oh he is just that sweet, only one day old, born yesterday, 26th ... awe .... that must have been exciting, or perhaps you are pretty used to it ... Thank you Lady Eye but i have only one child all those are of her, well the aniamls are like children to me too lol. I'll add the name for you on my forum I'm waiting a few weeks to name them. Yes it's exciting and enjoyable watch them all play when there a bit older. :)

Thank you for trying but it's not it i was looking to go from one page to another but not at the top lower down the page.

Have you thought about putting borders on your pictures? It makes them fairly crisp..

What you want is to be able to go from any given area on any page to another ... You can do this by a text link ... linking any word, anywhere on the page ... Just highlight the word that you would like to link to the other page, and then insert a link. (Hihglight the word, go to toolbar at top, choose insert, then choose link, then type in the url of that page, the same as you do when linking any pages). When someone clicks that word, they will be directed to the next page of your choice ... is that it?

Most of the pictures have boarders maybe i just need them a bit thicker so you can see it better. Thank you for your addvice.

LadyEye, it's what i have now i was thinking like seting the link on the animals info page (lot #) to where there item is for sale. so people don't have to scroll down to find it . but now that I have redone my product page and I may have more then one item from that goat what I asked don't make sence anymore.

A couple of suggestions for your contract pages - an arial font (not script) would be better for this, maybe set your target for these pages as _blank since these pages are stand alones and once there, there is no way back to your site other than the use of your browser, (folks may fall right off the site after viewing that page, lol)



And again, it might be just me, but I seem to be thinking I liked your first lambypie page better, seems there were all on one page, huddled as babies should me, I don't know, just didn't get the same feeling this time ... lol .... but you've done a nice job for sure ...

I fixed the contracts. not easy to get them to print out on one page like a wanted so it took me a wile lol.

I can put it back how it was on the lamb page and just have the links for those that want to see the difrent ages. Till they get older most wont seee the difrence they only fill out and grow but in pictures it's hard to show that lol.

the store is not on all pages yet, it's on the main page in the top bar and linked to the pictures on the product discription pages . I don't like that it's seprate so i may redo it and just use the paypal cart or look into beths cart.

What ones LadyEye? I know some of the names are because i didn't resize before i put the name in :( i can black the name out and retype it in but i can not revirse it. I can see if i have the old ones and re do them all but for Shadows and dawns those are from when i bought them I have a new one of dawn but not Shadow. I don't see what your talking about but for the names.

You could make a name tag for them too if you didn't have them, that's a good idea you thought of ....

Yes I do. I'll see about down sizeing frist then adding the names. I just thought it would be nice if you can relate the name an d picture so I added them in the picture. doese text in the picture work like reg. text for surches?

If you happen to look here. I Redid my Lamb page. I left in the links to the other ones to add in more picture of them. I put in the smaller Picture around the big one of them with there mom's.
I think I fixed Jim's confusion by putting it on the picture text.

I'd recommend putting a few words on this page ... something like

to view the video click here

and then link that to the video that you will put on it's own page ....

know what I mean, jellybean .... lol

And in future, take shorter clips 20 seconds or so ... they'll just zoom right through then ... you can always take a few, but keep them short ...

oh they are so cute, and your video is not dark at all, plenty of light in it for me anyway,

Do you have it set to autoplay ... ? u should do that too, so that it can start downloading right away ....

OK Lady eye, I did that it has it's Owen page now and a link from the lamb page, i put in one of the shorter ones i took. when you look keep an eye on the upper left and you will see the newest lamb.

That works better, still takes a little bit to buffer as it is going along, but not bad at all, and anyone wanting to see these little cuties will definitely be waiting for the buffering and the 2nd time around it's real quick ... well worth it ...

Jolen - the video is great - your should really be proud of yourself at how much you have accomplished with your farm and with the web page. Its fun to keep adding things to it isn't it. BTY I'm originally from Jamestown - if we ever get back that way again i'll be sure to visit your farm - keep up the fantastic work.

Thank you I missed that. I fixed it so should be good now I think.

I'm working now I a customer review page I think you would call it. I send out a form about the product they have bought and let them fill it out and send it back tome in a self addressed stamped envelope. I have a few back and would like to post them for other potential customers to see. any suggestion on what to name the page? and if I should just type it or have a link to a cope of the review?
