    Talking Just Published

Hope I'm in the right place for a web site review. I'm still learning where everything is. I'm new to BV but have found it incredible! This is my first attempt at building a web site and the Blue Voda software has made it very "User Friendly". If I'm not in the right place for a review, let me know.
Thanks in advance, Tom at Ornametals

I agree - the background for the phone number and contact info makes that almost impossible to read - and therefore might keep you from getting the calls I'm sure you want.

Then go into your page properties and put proper titles to the pages - like instead of home - you want this to have words someone might search for you with - maybe Ornamental Iron Works, Sculptures, Art by Orna Metals.

    Do similar with each page.

Then delete out your keywords - and ONLY put in words that are USED on THAT page. They are not the keywords to that page if you haven't used them.

Then delete your description - which should be a short little blurb in sentences about your business - again using your main keywords - but should not be a list of words.

Do each page - and the title, keywords and description for each page should be completely different - as each page is different.

your site looks good for a start sorry for seeming rude i apologize if i offended you earlier but it was intended with no malice or harm.
as for the smoke coming off the flames will require javascript and trust me you are better off without it ...reason why i had on my site fog effect to give my site a more sinister or spooky effect but it worked but could not cover entire page while scrolling so the java moved with scroll so i removed it cost me 30.00 usd and now i am stuck with it. also it made my site lag dearly.

you will get great reviews on your site from others as well as constructed criticism so don't be offended use the information they give you and your site will look great.

I'm hesitant about removing words from my key words, aren't they used to direct people to your site. Weather or not the actual words are on that page or not, I do all of them, and feel that if I were to actually put them on my page I would be writing a book? How can I get the same effect without being wordy?

Usually in se's the keywords are basically whats on your main page what you have written etc like my site it pertains to paranormal investigations i cannot use TAPS to try and gain people to come to my site they will cal it decieving due to not affiliated with TAPS. but others may tell you differently so do as you must.

on each page try to use your written text as keywords for that page etc this way by the time you complete your site you will have keywords for the entire site that was helped out by other pages keywords.

The meta keywords are not used to direct anyone to your page. In fact, most se's don't even look at them anymore because of how they are mis-used, but you'll find a better chance of them hurting you instead because of mis-use. No amount of spam - and putting in keywords that you don't use on the page is spam - is ever going to really help you.

As Jim has stated, each page should be using different words and being optimized for the different words on that page. But, again - don't just throw in words in a haphazard fashion - they have to fit on the page, flow correctly.

Looking good! You do great work. In addition to all that Beth tells you (she knows her stuff!!,,, I think I would just make sure that the pictures you take really highlight your excellent work. The pic's you have are good, but I would also like to see a little description of what I'm looking at. That's me though. How will you be using your website? Are you hoping to drum up business from that, or just want an informational site for your customers to go to. There's a phrase, I've picked up around here in Vodaland (***** I think) that I use almost daily now..."Plan your work, and then work your Plan." Just something I thought I would share with you. Keep up the good work.

On Key Words, should I just paste and copy all words that are on that particular page or include words from entire site? As for the photos, I'm in the process of taking better picts. Is there a certain resolution I should be exporting my gifs at? Would also like to have smaller picts that expand to larger ones when clicked on,. Any help on that would be great. And thanks again to everyone, this site is great!

I put all mine at 600 or lower pix so they load ok for the web site. but i'm not sure on if that's right. to make it smaller I use Jasc paint shop pro. you resize it save as "renamed" so you have your full size one still. then you add it to your page. add the full size to another page by it's self. then you set the link for the small one to the big one.

Good luck with your site it's looking great and I love your product.

You want to link from the small on your main site or pages to a large one by it's self on a page. i didn't do that but if you go here and click the link Name under the picture you'll understand i think.

Have another question about key words, some said it should not be ramdom words? If you look at my sites gallery picts, are the key words set up right? And I was wondering, how do you see what my meta tags are anyway? I try on the site but no luck.
Also was wondering how I can track hits on my site.

Ornametals - why don't you read this: Beginning SEO for some help on the meta.

But, no ALL the words on your page are NOT your keywords. You really cannot optimize a single page for more than 3-5 keyword phrases and do it well. Sometimes I only try for a single keyword phrase on a page.

The keywords have to be chosen by doing research - you can't just decide this is a good word LOL - cuz you deciding it doesn't necessarily mean anyone else agrees with you - and you then will be optimized perfectly for that word - and get no traffic by using it.

Read that downloadable SEO book - then ask me questions.

    Tom,
They work great, i would think about centerign them all and maybe adding a descrition on thhe page plus a back button.
thank you about the site but i have alot more animals too lol.
I also have 1 dog about 10 cats, 1 miniature horse, 4 ponies, 2 hens, 1 rooster, and a duck if I was to count them all lol. The site is just for the ones I get fiber from to sell if I was to add them all in it would get confusing lol.

    Tom,
I'll be happy to explain some of them.

An h tag is used to let the se's know that something is a headline. You can put headlines on the page without them - but this is like a heads up to them. Of course, using it properly is important.

The title is what shows on the blue bar at the very top of every page you open on the web. If you look up now, it will have the name of your post here and the category it's in - that's how this forum is set up to show titles. You need the titles on your pages to be the best keywords for each individual page.

And, yep, it IS a new language!

Up for Review, again! If anyone could review my site ornametals1.com, I would like some feedback on: are my titles ok now?, are my meta tags right?, (& how do you know!!!), I'm still not sure if i have my title in an H-tag? I've read Beth's book, but I'm still not sure about placement on the page. Does it matter where the title is?
I noticed a certain site that came up first to third on several serches (www.crosscustomworks.com), but the amount of text on his page was unbelievable! is this what I have to do to get noticed on the web?

    Question Re: Just Published

I can't find the post I just made so I'll ask again. I have republished my site with changes (ornametals1.com) and would love for some feedback. I'm still not sure if I put the title in an H-tag format? or even how! But I would like to know if there are any other changes that would help make my site easyier to find. Also, I noticed that when doing searches for my type of products, Gates mainly, that a certain site (www.crosscustomworks.com) is up at the top alot. this is a very nice site but, it is full of text. Is this what you have to do to get found? Thanks in advance, Tom.

Actually, you can expect that site to eventually be totally banned by google - as they are spamming big, big time. It starts out as a nice site - but ruins it - and, while it's helping them now - it will hurt them in the long run.

Now, on your site - you are not using an h1 - but worse than that - you took your headline and put it in so search engines can't even read it - you need that line to be in text that is readable - not an image. And I actually think the blue/red clashes with the rest of the page anyway- so do that line in text - preferably use an html box - and make the coloring fit the rest of the page and forget the fancy stuff for it. Your headline HAS to be readable to all.

If you want that line of text up on the top - make each of those words clickable to a page about them - and put them in this fashion:
Driveway Gates | Entry and Entrance Gates | etc - and if you don't have a page on them - then you shouldn't be using them like this.

Don't use "dirty" tactics to get the job done. It might help short term - but not long term.

I do suggest you'd be smart to make a page on each of the types of gates - with info on your gates and pictures of that style there. Makes a lot more sense and I'd prefer it if I was looking for one - rather than having to traverse through a gallery of them all.

Thanks Beth, on the h1, how and where does it go. I don't see anything in BV about adding one. I will change my headline to text, should it be at the very top? Does it matter? As for the line at the top, almost every site in the top ten searches had something like that. I was just trying to compete! I will be making separate pages for the styles of gates, fire screens, etc. but I am in the process of gathering those pictures right now. Thanks again for all your help, Tom.

Where the headline is now is a good location. To use the h1 tag, you need to put it in using an html box.

Your text will be entered similar to this:
    <center><h1> <font face="comic sans ms" size="4"> Your Headline Here </font></h1></center>
Make sure you input the font you want, the size you want, even the color you want, if necessary.

    For the color:
    <center><h1> <font face="comic sans ms" size="4" color="#000000> Your Headline Here </font></h1></center>
You need to find out the color number you are using - you can do so here: http://www.trainingtools.com/Resources/Color_Chart/

You get some great stats from your cpanel. I use statcounter.com for additional stats. I put it in invisible - but I'm not aware if they keep the actual count - I've never looked for that - not what I use them for. (Plus I use the free version :) )

On this forum, he is known for it - but I believe I heard it first probably 50 years ago from my father. And if you put those words in quotes in the search engines, you'll find many places where the phrase is used - including books by the name, etc.

Vasili utilizes and recommends a very important strategy that's done me well for my whole life.
