correct spelling of possible on samples page- the writing on enter page is very hard to read - either the font, font size or the color should be changed - my opinion only Interesting concept - nice logos

Hi Niome

I loved your site and your bueatifull dogs.

The only point i have is on your enter page the picture of the dogs was chopped personally speaking i think they attract customers to your site.

I had to scrowl to see the picture now whether this is because you have gone for a large bandwidth or not centered im not sure i did click on your other web site about golden retrievers and the picture was fine there, i loved your designs as well.

best of luck with it.

Hi Niome, The scrolling depends on the screen of the viewers, but if you keep your page within 800 wide everybody will be fine ( no scrolling), like you did in this page http://www.webdesignbyniome.com/enter.html.
I think you should use pixresizer for pictures, because they do take sometime to load. If you use a picture in the shape feature, but you do not re size the picture for the dimensions that you really want to publish, then it will be like loading a big image.
Your picture of the puppy in this page ( http://www.webdesignbyniome.com/services.html )
is smaller of the sunset picture in my site http://www.mediterraneotanzania.com/...-italiano.html
but load much slower because you did not re size the image.
Also check at bottom of the page the line " contact me for more details",
it goes almost out of the shape.
Keep with the good work.
Ciao

Niome, I hope you take this the right way- but your grammar and sentence structure need to be perfect if you want others to use your services. I certainly would not go to someone to make my website who doesn't know where a sentence should end, etc.

I could give many examples - and in the following case, just the writing of the paragraph is awkward:
These logos are some samples of possible logos and are owned by webdesign by Niome please contact me if you are interested in any of these styles
A better way to say this:
The logos shown here are samples of work by Web Design by Niomi and are copyrighted. Please contact Niomi if you are interested in any of these styles.
Of course, you can rewrite it in any fashion that would be grammatically correct, but having proper English and grammar is critical to a website.

Your website needs to have a logo that stays the same on all pages - so no matter where people land, they know where they are. And then, the navigation should be standard also. On the sentence I quoted above, you say to contact you - but I don't see any easy way to do that. I suggest the word contact me a link to your contact page - but, as far as I can see, you don't have one.

The site needs continuity and flow from page to page. The pictures of the dogs are beautiful - but the pages go from somewhat centered to left aligned, to different colors and different widths, etc. I just discovered that Contact Me etc is clickable - but because you don't change the color, or bold it, or have it underlined, most may never realize it.

Well, there is still no cohesive feel from page to page - no header to bring them together. You took what I wrote and put it in as another run-on sentence, so it's still not correct. Also - your URL is webdesignbyniome - but your site name should be Web Design by Nimoe - not all run together. In that PARAGRAPH - you have two sentences, but you never put in a period or capitalized the first letter in the 2nd sentence. You did the same here:
Please take some time and look around there's lots to see!

Also, you need to look at other websites and see what I mean about making it cohesive. There's a reason why most websites have a header - and the header and navigation follow from page to page - staying in the same place.

People will not always enter your site via your home page. In fact, as time passes, probably a larger percentage will enter from interior pages. This is as it should be. So every single page has to be a page that can stand alone if necessary. The easiest way to do this is to design it with a header and navigation that follows throughout the site. Don't make people have to use their back button or search a page to find the other pages. If I did come from your home page and clicked on Services - what if I now what to see the samples? Don't make it hard for me - I won't stay around if it is. And right now I'd have to go back or search for home to then click to samples.

You want to build sites for others, you need to make sure you know what is necessary for webpages - not just the design aspect, which you do have expertise in. The 2 have to go hand in hand on the web.

Hi Niome, in your pages " sample" & "services" you have text on top of other text.
Maybe is only on my Pc, has anyone else see it?

Hi, I see over lapping text still on my screen. It is located at the home page on the very bottom where it says "Limited only by your imagination". The text is over lapping the bar. The star the seperates samples & services also ontop of the word samples. Once you click samples, the part that says "All dog photos courtesy of
Piper and Juno my fabulous two" is ontop of "Contact Webdesign by Niome". Your website looks pretty cool otherwise though.

Are you using a web-friendly font? If not, this could be the culprit..

Hi, just having my usual gripe about images. Think you need to go through the site & resize most of them.
One of the biggest mistakes a lot of BV users make is using the handles on the side of the image for resizing. (A big no no!)
IE: The image on your front page is over 300kb. The one below is about 32kb & could be brought down to half this with some extra work. Images are one of the worst things to put on a page, but we all would like to see them & will always be part of our pages. So for this reason it is important to get them as small as pos in the KB department.
On your samples page (Nearly 1 Meg) I see you have used the light box which is one of the reasons the page is high in KB’s.
Only a personal opinion! But I think this image facility should only be used for 1 or 2 images max on a page as it doesn’t reduce the kb’s on the thumbnails & also makes the thumbnails look crinkly. There are some freebies & tips on images in the image/photo link below.
But on the good side. The sites got a nice lay out & looks good.

Good Luck.
Ps This is the same for some images on the other site. http://www.chantillygoldens.com/tuxalbum.html

hi all thanx for the cc. I actually did resize the images on the free resizer? They are 60 % of what they were! I'll rethink the font and see what I can come up with!
ps-When I resize them on my computer at home my program photoimpression lets me reduce pixels and I've reduced these all to about 700xwhatever the height is, is there a better rule of thumb for resizing?

PS :) I would like to keep the lightboxes for the time being to have some samples for clients to look at but I'm considering a few other options for them! Once both the sites in the right are up and running I might have only a few select samples and then the links to the completed sites!

Hi, what is often forgotten with PIXresizer is to uncheck the 100% box & chose the smaller image size (physical). What’s happened is that you have taken a 2592x1070px image & reduced the over all pixels but used the handles on the side of the image to make it smaller. So is all you have done with PIXresizer is reduced the pixels in the over all image (which is good) but still squeezed the remaining image into an area 778x321. So if you deducted the second size from the 1st, you will then gain another big saving in kb’s. This can be done with any image software, Or! just use MS Picture manager. Its fine for this type of work & works real well, plus a little more controllable than PIXresizer. So you now need to reduce the phyisical size of the image you are using. But not by the image handles.

Good luck.

Hi Chris I downloaded the pix resizer and am going to resize all the pix. However I made word pics so that all computers can see the font that I want to display and when I load the page the pics of the words take a long tim eto load even though they are resized, is there anything you would recommend to do for this?

Hi Niome about the text read this thread regards shapes and text: http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/add...g-problem.html
About the picture, yes you have resized them, but you have also used the mouse to make them smaller.
I dowloaded your picture in the enter page and the size in bluevoda is :
w 900 , h 910 more or less.
But, you want to have 400 x 400, so this are the figure you must put when you using pix.

P.s. try to download my picture and then insert them in bluevoda, you will see the size remains the same.

ONce you get your picture to the size you want, you can go to this page and optomize it to be less dense. i.e., load faster.
