Thread: Help us enhance our site (with a bigger social purpose)

Dear voda community,

Aside from striving for viability, our company is on a mission to improve the socio-economic condition of seaweed farmers in Sitangkai, Philippines. Ours is a social business enterprise.

We developed a website to help us pursue this mission.

We need your inputs on how can we enhance our site to make it an effective tool for advocacy and business.

The site is informative, marketing and useful.

One suggestion, you have set your page width at 1565 and your page is not centered. Reduce the width to 800 or 1280px and center it.

Thanks bill... I followed your input. I set the width to 1250 and checked on the center to browser option but when i previewed it, it did not arrange to the center. So i manually moved everything to the center to achieve the same result. I haven't done it yet in other pages while waiting for comments on this.

Great Job, your site is very professional and navigates well. Great Design.

In my browser (IE) the page is set to the right of the screen. But I can view everything easily.

Your site set out is great and everything fits and blends in well. The only thing you really need to continue to work on is Search Engine Optimisation but you appear to have great content already. Well Done.

At last i was able to figure it out. i just discovered that i have to fit the page width exactly to all elements without excess space so that when its rendered on the browser, it will be on the center.

Aside from this, i am still soliciting inputs on how to enhance our site further. At the moment, i have to do the changes in all other pages to have it centered.

Have you thought of targeting the buyers for? The suppliers of Health shops, Homeopathic shops,restaurants.
Another one to look at is Fare trade: http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/about_us.htm I am not sure if you have this in your area of the world. But worth a look.


Only a personal part to your site that I wasn’t sure on, was sure you should promote anti -cancer properties on one link, & especially drugs/seaweed that has been tested on mice in another link. You will find yourself alienating yourself to a very large selection of visitors.

I'm not really in the field of medicine but from my layman's understanding, mice are being used to test the potency of a specific material more often in the development of medicines.

In this case, it's about the increase of NK activity due to carragenan.

But if it has a negative impression effect on you, there might also be on others. So i will surely consider the possibility of taking out that link.

Hello; your site is great. the only way I can think of enhancing your site is to do some video, as to what seeweed is and who uses it. Video is being used by most of the big guys to keep people interested. It's easy, fun and affordable.

Since you mentioned Search Engine Optimization, I viewed some sites' source code and their keywords/metatags read "Content". Many if not all of these sites are listed in the top 10 in google. How is that done? Thanks in advance.

You have done an excellent job ... well done ... all you need is some tweaking over the next few months to optimise everything ...

I do notice the style of the text menu changes on some pages and on some pages the side menu is missing or is in a different style than the one on the home page ... but this is minor ... it has a great look, feel and is simple and easy to navigate ...

Thanks for the suggestion... I will try to do a flash animation on this. I'm a bit hesitant about video (like the one made with movie maker) because it might be too heavy for the site.

With regards the missing side menu in some pages, i really intend it to be that way so that visitors will have to scroll down and most likely read the contents before they find the link to another page. I don't know if this strategy will work.
