Thread: Been gone too long but i'm Back...

Hello everyone and to those who knows me as well i have been very busy with North America Ghost Hunters and now we are doing a radio show via Blogtalk Radio as well

But here is my latest works for our Cub Scouts located here in West Virginia.

Can i get some feedback on how it looks to you all?

It would be most appreciated.

Oh and if you use Fire Fox the events page will not work for some reason but will work in IE.

On mozilla, it's not centered.........and not in IE either..........

But looks really nice...love the pointer thingy...ok...so I don't have all the jargon down yet...LOL

I'm on broadband and the INITIAL opening of home page drags a little so I'm thinking a slight wait for dial-up...but shouldn't be a problem for the pack, being its not some fly-by-night site, its their site.

Nice colors and loved how you used the actual pack number badges for the site...very nice. Would be proud if it were my cub's pack site.

This is a great site - am sure the scouts & parents will love it. I also think it's a great idea that people have to log in to see the photo gallery.

I noticed that the buttons on the left hand side need aligning. And for me, the background was a little distracting (the background together with the graphic on the white section under the writing looked a little busy. I would prefer just solid blue for the background.)

Your site has a lot of nice features - such as the chat facility :)

ok centered the main page and did best i could on alignment check it out now to see if its centered now lol and as for (I would prefer just solid blue for the background.) i was going to try that but itdidn't look too pleasing to the committee so i decided to go with the cub scout background for the white.

Now i may use the fixed background so that everything else will scroll to keep it but then it may not look to pleasing.

Jim, it looks like your site is shaping up. If you still are working on alignment, there are a bunch of useful helps when you click on the "Layout" menu item.

Welcome back, JB! Nice little site you have emerging!

The Menu buttons are still not positioned the same on every page (which is why the transistions look jumpy still). Remember to use the Copy and paste icons (top of toolbar) to make sure they end up in the exact same position on each page.

I like the Cursor effect! Speaking of effects, are you planning to use the Ad Rotator at first to do a slideshow using some pictures of the Pack itself? (Kids and parents love to see themselves, and it's a great way for to create the "favor" to translate into increased use/visits).
I like the Chat utility too ..... different enough to keep everyone engaged.

Thinking about how to have a means to show Merit Badge progess, or an online Handbook? That too, would be useful and a way to make the site a functional "favorite" destination.

On your homepage you are having alignment probs with the buttons at the bottom of the page, spacing probs with the menu on the side and the big "202" image at the top - the first "2" seems to be cropped just a wee bit at the top to ruin the effect.

Lovely looking site but I do not think I would want to advertise my email address to every spammer out there (might be hard to find the customers emails eventually)

When I went to the gallery I just got this massive page of error messages and statements about IE SP2 and all sorts of rubbish. I temporarily enabled Javascript and got................................... a password box. This is the first "gallery" that I have ever seen that needs a password. Is this Politically Correct gone ballistic or what? Then all the menus have disappeared, so you've now annoyed the viewer and given them no way back = lost customer

Thanks to all for the comments i will attempt to make the adjustments as time goes by due to running the radio station, the ghost hunters website, legacy and now pack 202.

Vasili nice to be back my friend i was thinking on trying to create a interactive page on the handbook etc but haven't got quite that much talent yet he he i was going to use the rotator but with the BSA rules we can't display the cubs unless the parent approves first. once we have obtained the permissions it will be put to the test.

Muzza...The gallery is supposed to be for the parents and the pack committee they will be issued a single password to access the photos in the gallery. anyone else meaning a person cannot go onto the gallery section that isn't authorized. these are the terms i have to follow with the BSA.

The site isn't about selling (customers) its for the parents and pack committee and future parents with children who would like to join Pack 202. they will be informed that the gallery is passworded but only the committee will issue out the password.

The pack 202 numbers i can remedy that in a heart beat.

and my only problem is now getting the darn buttons to line up correctly on the left lol.

What a shame this paranoid world is afraid to place a few photos (of kids having fun) on the web without the parents permission.

If I was a prospective parent that wanted to have a look at what this group was doing while I was making up my mind where I would like my kid to go, I would be insulted when I was told that I had to be vetted before being given a password, before I could view certain parts of their website.

IDK, Muzza, my kid in this pack?....ya gotta be part of the group to see em......makes me feel better knowing that not just anybody can see my kid.

We are talking about a scout program here.....young boys.......nah, the redneck gets ugly............you gotta have a password!

Please don't take offense but it is just too weird how the people in this twilight zone of which I now reside thinks it is the fault of the 11 year old girl that she got raped because of how she was dressed.

I gotta say......................kids are priceless................make it secure!

Sorry but I think people are too paranoid. I use my sons image as an avatar and he's only 2 yrs old. I encourage him to be friendly and outgoing not paranoid and treating each new person as a threat. I also display young kids images on my website who just want to show off the fish they catch - Their parents know why I take the photos and not one parent has a concern.

I think that if you are that worried about "perverts" in your society ..... move to a better society. Come to New Zealand the US$ is worth more here anyway

Thanks David i agree lets keep it in its perspective.

Now back to the website lol I have added another page to the website the cubmaster told me that most of the children are unable to remember their oath so i have placed a button on the oath page that will send them to the other page to test their ability to remember the oath the words to the oath are mixed up and they would have to arrange it and place it in its right spot by drop and drag and then theres a button they can click that will show a popup with the oath for them to test their memory to see if its right or not. if not they can continue to try their best.

Still working on the buttonsi may have to remove the buttons on them now and use the BV buttons because they are lined up. hard to find the right color and look on those lol but as with all websites trials and errors are always their thats why we have the BV community to help. :)

The buttons looked "lined up" to me (centered in their allotted area), but the buttons do appear not to be all the same width and heighththth (spelling...ugh) but I don't see this as a problem.

I see the pages are centered in the browsers now.

The ideas you have and apply are truly worthy of a scout's site.....making me learn my oath...keeping my attention on the site......being ready to make the necessary adjustments.

yeah the buttons are not quite the same in length due to the words some are less text than the others so i figured as long as i align them the same way there won't be that much of a difference to anyone maybe a slight shift when you go from page to page but i am working on getting them to match up so there won't be any shifts.

I fixed the 202 pack number badge it is now neater.
