Hi, site looks fine, but wouldn't of associated it with dogs straight away. You need to crop the http://www.walkersjapanesechin.com/coolsilver.jpg image down as its pushing the page out to 1300 wide& giving the site side scroll.
You need to also make quite a few of your images web friendly to help with quick loading pages. IE: http://www.walkersjapanesechin.com/puppies.html is running in the megabyte range.

It is real good as a starter. You got the pages linked propery with buttons, images aligned. Below are my comments to add some user friendliness.
1. Width of the page can be reduced by resizing your images.
2. Button images are good but mouse over it shows the white background, may be you need create the button with different background to make it butter instead of white.
3. Effects is good for a personal site but not really user friendly and takes bit of time to load up the pages.
