Default Site Review Please

I would love to have some feed back on a web site I recently moved to VH. http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits.com Have much to learn but the BV software is amazing.

(I still have problems getting my linking program, Zeus, uploaded with the same template, so disregard my Resources Page for the time being.)

My daughters tell me that on their PC's the images and words overlap on a few pages. It was suggested that the use of the vivaldi font caused the problem, but they saw the same thing occurring when vivaldi was not being used. Anyone else seeing overlapping images and verbiage?

Any and all comments welcome.

Thank you in advance,
Barbara Roberts

Real nice looking site, unusually the background images are quite large in size & making the pages a bit slow on loading. You need to crop a 50mm area out of each background panel & place this cropped area in the shapes as images.
Some of the pages are a bit wider than others. I usually find it best to make 1 page with headers & menus & have a blank area where the main text is going to go. Then lock this page & save it. From here all you have to do is press the clone button & it will copy that page & you just fill in the centre area. All pages will then be the same & not have any jumping around on page transitions. But make sure this page is perfect as all the other pages will be the same.

Good luck.

Hey Barb! Just gorgeous, very elegant.

The only text overlap I saw is on "Family Portraits Gallery 1."

Some of the testimonials need initials to follow.

Under the pics of the 2 brothers, it says "son of Bill & Vicki Wyatt"; there's a line that's out of place. (Noticed that because my husband & I are also Bill & Vicki!)

I would love to link to your site in the future. Best of luck to you!

Thank you all very much for your comments. Patience, I added the initials and removed the line. Not sure what to do about the overlapping. tks

Chris, I am a rookie here:

I'll need someone to walk me thru this. I have no idea what you are talking about!

As I worked with BV I realized that that was what I needed to do. Problem was that I made so many changes as I was learning, that I failed to get the perfect page! I did go back and make them all 800 wide. I don't know why some are showing up wider and, as reported here, they are a bit off center. I'll find another place to ask those questions as I understand I should not ask for help here.

Thank you all,
Barbara

Hey Barb

Great site, love the colors and you have used the same Nav bars as I have. Very professional looking site. The only overlapping I saw was on the Links to us page with you URL.

Well done, Great work

Hi Barbara, we all stared of as rookies & you’re off to a real nice start.
My apologies! I should have said to place them in a table & not a shape.
If you take these images.
http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits.com/bv01015.gif
http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits.com/bv01036.gif
http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits.com/bv01005.gif

They add up to about 732kb in total.
I believe that you took a thumbnail & placed it as the background of a shape? This is fine when wanting a small shape & your small image as a background. But when its stretched & taken up to page/panel size’s it keeps razing the KB’s dramatically. (As above)
But if you use tables it works in a different way (not to sure how) But you end up with a page that was 732kb in background images being brought down to about 10kb. (a big 3/4meg drop).
This page is made up this way. http://www.collectors-info.com/testing/bgtest.html
To make this, is all I did was:….
1. Do the page background as you did before with the red stripe image.
2. Then Place a table on the page with the insert table properties set at (From the top) 1/1/0/0/0 press ok.
3. Then right click on the table & select table properties & add your image or background colour. IE: Grey colour for the 1st one, as this is what will give the illusion that there are borders. (don’t use the tables borders as they don’t look the same in all the browsers)
4. Now stretch the table out to about 900wx1400h (assuming this is the grey background)
5. Now repeat the above again for all other elements/panels on the page using the images that you used for the shapes that you used on your original pages. (I am assuming these images are similar in size to the red stripe background image that you used )??

Post back if you are not sure.

Chris,
I'll give this a try when I have several hours to devote. Your last post does give me a clearer understanding of what you are talking about.

This site comes from a host that took several minutes to load it so I thought what I had in BV was fast. Didn't occur to me that it could be even better. Fortunately, this site is not so big and changing it shouldn't take too much time.

Hi Barb!

You know I would notice SEO things first off :) - You haven't filled out the title (home page says home page, for example) That needs to be done right away - as you know.

I really like the colors you've used and the feel you've given the site. Excellent job. It loaded really quickly for me - but I see the point he made. Something I'll have to try sometime also.

On the Child Portraiture page - there's a lot of space before the pictures start - I'd move them up a tad on the page. Or put some more text before them. I like how you've overlapped the pictures just slightly - gives it a great feeling.

A few of the pages - well, at least one that I noticed- I think it was Family Portaiture 1 - is not centered properly. And on it and the 2 page, the header is not even with the body of the page (it is right on the home page and I don't remember seeing that on other pages).

I only skimmed through - but again - love the way you've put this together. I think it looks tremendously better than the previous site.

Good job!

Hi, on pages like the front page & some others, the background is about 80%+ of the total page.

http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits.com/index.php 850kb or 3/4 meg http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits....ortraiture.php 1152kb or 1.12meg
http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits....portraits1.php 1307kb or 1.27meg

Basically, It’s a bit like having a Ferrari & hitching up a camper.

Good luck.

Hi Barbara, you choice of colors and the text style is very elegant, and perfect for your site.
I think I know why in this page http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits....portraits1.php
you are having the overlapping.
For the text " Family portrait" and " Gallery one " , you have used the text feature two times, it is like writing two lines.
My suggestion is that should be done in one line text:
1)delete Gallery one
2) go on Family portrait text
3) After portrait start to make space until you think is enough.
4) Now write again Gallery one.
This it will be like only one line text, and it will not overlap
Good job

Thank you all for your reviews, comments, and advice. As Chris suggested about the background images, I have redone the site. With great help from NavalDesign the header image is also now in php giving me opportunity to change the image from time to time.

As Beth reminded me, I have edited my page titles. If anyone sees any overlapping or any other problems I would truly appreciate knowing about it. Thanks to all of you who have helped to made this revision possible.
