Default New site

Hi all
Just started a new site, and before I go any further was wondering if the white background is too much. Any other observations will also be welcome.
Thanks.

Nice site, simple with a nice design. You’re right on the graphics page. Its running at about 2 meg. One of the things I don’t think you have done is check the “Generate thumbnail images” box in the image gallery as your thumbnails are running the same size as the main pop up image. It will take this size page down a lot if checked.

Good luck.

Thanks Chris.
Thanks for the info.
I have ticked the thumbnail box but it hasn't reduced them by all that much although they are a bit smaller.
I was just looking at your sig and the viewing in 1024x768. I have 19 monitor set to 1280x960 so i altered it to 1024 and everything is massive on the screen. I may have to rethink the image sizes on both my sites, they probably won't fit on most viewers screens without scrolling a lot.

Hi, the stranded that most will view your site at is 1024 x 768 . This is for now & I am sure it will change in time.
One of the reasons for this standard is a lot of web developers use fluid layouts & the above allows for large & smaller screen screens that are set to different resolutions. IE: the site should look fine on all of them.
On the image side of things. I see its dropped them down a bit, but surprised it didn’t do it more.
At the end of the day you will make quicker pages doing your own thumbnails & linking to pop ups. Most of those t/nails would look better & only be about 5’ish kb each. Unfortunately, it Just takes a little longer. The link below should work if you wanted to try.

Good luck.

“#" onClick="window.open('http://www.yoursite.com/your-large-image.jpg', '','scrollbars=0,width=300,height=200,left=250,top =150'); return false;"

.

Thanks for the info Chris , and the code. I have started to put 'em on individually and like you say it is a lot better, if a bit slower.

Just had another look & its loading so much quicker now. The page is down from 2meg to about 580kb now, & the graphics look a lot better with the lager size.
On the pop ups if you want to get rid of the image not quite opening fully. Just increase the pop up size on those ones & it will get rid of that.

Good luck, it looks a lot better now.

Cheers Chris,
LOL I know about the pop up sizes but I copied and pasted the same into every one then changed the image name. I couldn't be botheed going all the way through again, but I will get round to it when my eyes have returned to normal after all the thumbnaill resizing.

Looking quite nice, bro!

But then, I am all into the minimalism that goes so underappreciated anyway, but in your use, it truly elevates the site Content and purpose quite *****ly without the foo-foo that snares so many.

Looking forward to seeing the "final" refinements.....LOL.....is there such a thing as "final" anything in the web game???
