Default new site, pls. comment

BV has truly been a very humbling experience. I published the 12 pages of my site. www.submarinepaintings.com. I don't know what I did wrong, they do not link. I tried verifying the link and it says for each one that the URL's are not found. I reread all the comments and I am overlooking something.

Besides that problem, would you inform me how I make a "success and failure" page when Paypal has generated all the shopping pages? What would I click on for a link?

If I have made any other mistakes, please advise.
Thank you for bothering.

You might want to start with checking the names for your pages. I get 404 errors trying to follow any of your links. Make sure that the name of the page matches the link exactly including upper and lowercase characters. For example your prints link the name is submarine_prints and it should have a .html extension. I tried adding one manually from the location bar in my browser and it still didn't find a page.

Thank you. I didn't put the html on anything because from what I have read in the posts, it said not to. The program takes care of it. But I will go back and see what happens.

Hi Subpainter

Are your links exactly like the pages you have saved in BV?

For eg

If you save a page in bv as aboutus

the url link will be http://www.abc.com/aboutus.html

or if you save a page in bv as contactus

the url link will be http://www.abc.com/contactus.html

You'll see the bit highlighted in red is exactly the same.

This might solve your problem

Darren

I right clicked on the menu bar and in properties there are 5 pages listed. They all say...http://www.submarinepaintings.com/submarine_prints.html and etc. depending on the page. Should I not have the site in there?

Darren,
Thank You!!! I renamed them with underscores and I did it for 2 pages and went online and it worked. I will go back and fix the rest. I am confused about the "title" of the page which doesn't have to be the URL and I must have mixed some of them. I really appreciate the help. Thank you.

You're welcome Sub

Sort out all your links first, then come back when you are ready to look at your page titles.

OK Darren,
I fixed all the links and checked them online and they seem to work. Now please tell me what you mean about the page titles. Thankyou.

Hi, with the title it is also worth thinking about what visitors may have put in the search to arrive at your site as this is also part of the SE searches. IE: instead of Home for your index page, try something like Submarine paintings drawings home page. You then have 3 helpful links for the se’s to find (Submarine paintings drawings) But these word must be included within the text of your page & key words to have some validation.
These are also individual to all pages. So treat all pages as a separate item.
To enter page titles & key words. Main menu>View>Page properties> Enter page title. This is also the area for entering your key words under Meta/Tags.

Good luck.

Chris,
Thank you for commenting. I am confused. I understand the metatags but I do not understand the page names. When you name a page (as in the tutorial) is that different from entering a page title? I thought the home page always had to be named "index"? Could you please show me an example? When I go into page properties and it says 'title' this is what I have...www.submarinepaintings.com/index, when I open, say the page with the original paintings, the title says ...www.submarinepaintings.com/submarine_prints. Does what is in the title have to do with what the URL is? Otherwise how do the pages link? Would you please write what would go in its place? Thank you. L

Chris,
I went back and watched the 2 tutorials. I got naming the website pages confused with titling the pages. I finally got it. Thank you. I changed the home page to what I think someone would type in and I will continue with the rest. Thank you very much for the input. I really appreciate the help.

Hi, you got it! 2 different parts of the making of a web page.

Good luck with the site.

When I visit your contact page and then try to go back to your home page, the home page opens in a new window. You should probably fix this.

Good Luck and nice site!
