Hi Boydy,

Welcome, and you're away from the starting blocks...
A couple of comments:
  • Your header picture is 322kb and slows your page loading down. It's saved as a .png (I find if I save as .png it's usually quite a bit bigger than .jpg - so I only use it if I want to keep transparency) you can reduce the size with pixresizer
  • You need to add keyword rich page titles. SEO Basics
  • Use the same size text frame for your two news articles and align the 'read more' links to each other.
  • "During this time she was also took..." on home and about us pages.
Enjoy,

Thanks for the advice
spelling change was an easy fix but am stumped by the header resize
It took me hours to get the header sorted if I resize will it still fit in and will I have to do each page again
Use the same size text frame for your two news articles and align the 'read more' links to each other.
can you give me a bit more help here as am not to sure what to do here

Many thanks
boydy

Hello Nicole,
Well, you are amazing. And your site is really well done. I'm new at this too and still working on mine, but seeing what other's have done is so helpful. I really like your banner. Did you use a photoshop filter on the photo? It's very effective.
Sorry I can't comment on the techincal part, you are much further along than I am, but I like how the photos work. The only thing that looked a little busy to me are the underlines on the page links. Really well done, that's a lot of work!

Hi Boydy,
I removed your text from the picture, as it would be better to add this outside of the picture (on top of picture) so that the SE's can read it. Here is example of your reduced picture (40kb)

Click on either of your text areas on your home page (story & news)>>shift>>click other text area>>now click 'make same width' icon (double sided arrow<->)>>to be safe click align left as well. Use the same method to align your 'read more' links.
Cheers,

Hi, the sites coming on, couple of things that may be worth a look.
The http://www.nicolemcaleer.com/galstudio0308.html page needs the images reducing; you have over 2000kb of images. Would personally use a proper image gallery like jalbum or similar for any more than 1 or 2 images. (Only a personal view as the thumbnail quality & large kb’s is terrible with the light box).
This is the same with some of the other gallery pages.
The pages is not quite centered? But I noticed that the widest item on the page is 841px, yet the page width is set at 1043. I can only assume that you are building the site centered on your screen. No problem! But normally you would start building a page with BV from the far left of the screen with no spaces on the left side & then centered to the widest item on the page. IE: Your header image at 841px.
Good luck with the site just needs that special photo for the front page.

Hi, publishing to Jalbum can be done 2 ways.
1.create an account (Freebie) at the jalbum site & upload to there. OR!
2. When you are making your jalbum, you will see a publish button. Press this button.
You will now have another window pop up just like the publish popup in BV.
Press the add button & on the window that pops up tick the “Use an existing account on another server” radio button & bress ok.
Fill out the details the same as your BV publishing popup.
Server Name = IP Address
User Name = Same as your VH account
Password = Same as your VH account

All this only has to be done one time.

Now press connect & you should be into your server.
Look down the list for public_html & Click on it to highlight.
Now at the top of this area there is a gold folder with a yellow/red star (1st icon on left)
Click on this one time You will notice that it has created a folder to the same name as you called the album. You can now press Upload all & it will start to create the album on your server.
You should now be able to click on the link next to address label at the bottom of the screen for the url. (My one wont work) But don’t worry at worst the url will be http://yoursite.com/newalbumfolder/ You wont need any more as there is an index page in the folder that will be picked up on.
It looks a bit long winded, but the 1st time will take the longest. If you want to update an album, just add/delete the images & connect to the same folder in the server again & this time press Smart upload as this will only update what’s needed.

Good luck.
PS I forgot. Best way to get this into a BV page is pop an iframe on the page & use the album link as the opening iframe page.

Thanks again Chris,
Explained brilliantly that even I can understand. Will have a play later as the server for my website appears to be down.

Thanks again
