Hi S,
go to their site, choose a category then at the top choose add a link. If you specificaly want a banner then youi need to contact them through their contact button.

great , great , great idea !!! not everything works perfect ( for example : the banner size in the small banners is set on 468x60 ) but I believe this site will be a huge success !

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't search engines penalise websites linking together from the same IP range? I thought conventional wisdom suggested that you were supposed to avoid linking to websites in the same range. Sorry to put a downer on your project, and I sincerely hope I am wrong - but I don't think I am.

No, you won't be penalized for a link from the same range. However, the link would be more valuable if it wasn't a reciprocal link - it would then have the same value as a link with a directory - which this is - and would help everyone more.

You could also make it more valuable by having the link to a different page than the page that is used for the anchor link back.

Oh, you also get much better credit for links with good anchor text and text links, than you do with banner links. So, to do yourself a favor, you're better off with se's to use text links over banner links.

I have been looking into the above question.

Most website owners have no control over the IP address or C-class they are allocated for their websites. Search engines may identify and penalise clusters of websites linking to each other from the same IP Block or C-class. This may be because this kind of back linking looks unnatural and also looks like it is done for the sake of increasing link popularity and search engine rank rather than relevancy. This theory, however, has not been proven yet and no major search engine has spoken about this clearly

I'll look into it deeper.................:p

When I try and add my link, it comes back and says "Link is broken". I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I have suggested a "construction" category under the "Business" category through the website. Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?

Many hosting companies have a "showcase" of their websites. This gives the websites a boost in the se's - and does not hurt the websites because they are on the same or similar ip's.

The category has been confirmed so you shouldn't have a problem, if you do there are differant ways to contact someone..

Bethers and Dave are right about not being penalized, the web being what it is the 30K+ people who host with Voda would then all get low ranking, which doesn't happen.

There is a new way that search engines are going to be crawling our sites, MSN and Yahoo, which will effect ranking, directories like Exchange Link will help with your ranking, When I find out more I will post.

Banners over Link Text, either can be used when linking back to Bluevoda exchange Link, both contain the same code, its up to you what suits your site.

When a site signs up, many differant things happen, its not just a information about your site etc on a page, the information gets coded so search engines crawl you site and log the link, its hard to explain ( not even sure I fully understand!), as the site is contected to other information (go back into your site listing and see, or check out the forum for more detail) all this helps your ranking.

I would like to know if a site that is for Victorian topics and items for sale such as Oil paintings, Victorian Books, Victorian History, Architecture and so forth is a new categorie? I will have some collectables, but that is one of only approximately 20 or more pages dealing with every facet of Victorian History and items for purchase.

Yup - I've got one of those too. Lol. Your best bet would be to contact them through the site. They both have loads of other stuff to do but they do answer emails.

After you added your site, go back and check the details, click on the charts and follow the link through.

Then your stats picture etc will show up....this will also help with your ranking!
