It depends on whether they are add on domains or just subs. If they're add-on domains then they'll show as per your second example. If they're just subs then they'll be as your first.

Add ons are much better for business and SE's, but you need to buy the domain name that you want to use. Apart from the above - they work very similarly. You can access both lots of awstats (add-on and sub) through the Sub domain Awstats button in your Control Panel.
