Thread: Confused over redirects, HELP PLEASE.

Hi, I have got in a muddle and need to sort things out. I have an add on domain which I have also put as a sub domain (mysite.com and mysite.myothersite.com). Now both sites come up in Google, even though I am only publishing to mysite.myothersite.com. I fear that this will count in Google as duplicate content. I wish to put a permanant redirect on the add on, is this the right thing to do? If it is, how do I do it? I have been into the Cpanel and have seen that you only get the option of temporary or permanant if you want to redirect your main domain. What type of redirect do you get for add ons?

Please help me out of my confusion.

I think that you may be confused between an ADDON domain and a SUBDOMAIN....
If you have added an ADDON domain to your account, cpanel would have created a seperate folder/website for you.

I.E: http://www.originaldomain.com
and your addon would be
http://www.addondomain.com

The fact that your url is mysite.myothersite.com indicates that you have created a Subdomain......

To continue what David is saying, you made a subdomain with the same name - and yes, this could hurt you. You are much better off just having the addon domain.

Instead of a redirect on the add-on, I'd get rid of the subdomain. What's the purpose of it?

Alas I cannot do this as there is a theme of subdomains to the main site and I have a number of sites linking to this sub domain that I do not want to lose.

Do you know if I do a redirect via Cpanel on the add on domain, will it be a permanent or a temporary one?
