Thread: Updating name servers and publishing site

Hi all,

Well, I'm completely new to this website creation deal, and I have many questions, but will start with just the main ones:

- Q1: My domain name was purchased somewhere else (www.1and1.fr) and I made sure to change the DNS to the server address I got in the welcome letter. However, when I enter the name of my site (www.exclusive-real-estate-and-more.com) it still shows the original website from where I have purchased the name. Is this due to propagation time (I've updated DNS only a couple hours ago)?

- Q2: I am learning to use bluevoda in order to create a site. I was able to publish a test page since I can see the file in the parent direcory (or at the temporary url: http://74.52.137.210/~rsxtshgc/ ) but I'd like to see the page show up when I type in the website name in the URL. I've read some stuff about addons, but I'm really confused. What should I do?

Hi..

1. It takes between 24 to 48 hours to update server details and for propagation to complete.. after that you will be able to see your website on voda host's servers.

2. When #1 is completed, this will be fixed automatically.

A newbie question:

when I tried to use BlueVoda to publish a page, I could not find the IP address (74.52.103.210 from the welcome letter) on the "server IP" list. What should I do?

the domain is ccecbridge.org

Download and install BV again. That will bring up your "missing" info.
You will not lose any files with the new installation.

Me again - I would like to know if it is normal that during the dns propagation time the site will show (it did yesterday night) and not show (as of this morning). Thanks.

Yes, this is a normal part of the propogation cycle.

I added an addon domain this morning.I've already changed my dns servers to vodahost. I see it in the FTP folder, but I can't publish to it. I know it takes 24 or more hours to be ready, will I get an email letting me know that I have access to it.

My main domain is: modestywebmasters.com and the addon is sanaslegacy.com

You do not have a index page, your sites home page needs to be named index, please watch tutorial about naming your pages.
