My gosh ! Somebody out there has to help me. I have some major issues here. 1. I purchased a new domain thru VH. I waited for Support to send me the nameservers so I could change it at VHDomains, but no one has sent me anything. I went over to VHDomains and saw my new domain listed with this kind of notice.... Current Service: - Our DNS Servers Then it listed 5 different nameservers, of which none are the nameservers I had been using for my primary account domain. Do I change these to the two nameservers I had been using.... Or, wait for support to verify thru email? And how long does that take? 2. Another Problem. I own a domain that was hosted by another company. I got my nameservers changed to match what Support told me to change them to so they are pointed to VH. Now what do I do? Does it need to be treated as an add-on? It's not showing up in my domain list at VHDomain. Could someone please write a quick reference guide and walk us newbies through the whole process? It's a little scary when you don't know the terminology and steps. I see several postings that provide guidance at various stages of the process. I've seen the tutorials, but I still don't catch the overall picture. But could someone just take us from Step 1 all the way thru to ready to publish. The issues would be: New Domain Purchase New Domain Purchase added to existing account. New Domain Transfer to existing account. Nameserver changes to existing account. How To Publish The Added Domains Sorry about writing a book here, guys. But I am totally frustrated and confused. Thanks for the help. |

They are never going to send you nameservers. When you buy a domain name, you DON'T buy a hosting account. So, VH only provides you DNS management. You need to change the two first nameservers to the actual nameservers of your hosting account, delete the others. 2. Another Problem. I own a domain that was hosted by another company. I got my nameservers changed to match what Support told me to change them to so they are pointed to VH. Now what do I do? Does it need to be treated as an add-on? It's not showing up in my domain list at VHDomain. Of course it is not showing in VH domains. You have NOT purchased it from HV domains, and, unless you transfer it to VH, your domain name cp will remain where it was till now. If you have pointed its name servers to your VH account, you need to add it in this account as addon. How To Publish The Added Domains Look at http://www.vodahost.com/tut_dns.htm However, the steps are: If you purchased the domain name from VH, enter your Vodahost Billing Services account, and change the DNS to point to your existing account (you should know which servers they are) The same, but with another company, if you purchased it elsewhere. Enter you account CP and add the new domain as Addon domain. You're done.

Login to your vodahostdomains account and click on your domain name. When that opens, click "Change Service", select "User" and then input the dns info for your account. Once that's done, you can add the domain to your account as an addon in your Cpanel. For the second part, if the domain name servers have been pointed to VH then yes, you would add this as an addon domain as well.

Racefan, (or Anyone) I did as you recommended and here's what I got... *****Errors modifying nameservers: Nameserver ns.17.vodahost.com cannot be registered*****This nameserver and ns.18.vodahost.com was my original assigned servers. Why will it not let me set these for this new domain I purchased? I had a period after "ns" and shouldn't have been there. Everything is cool now. I will wait my 24 hours for propogation right? Meanwhile, can I do the addon in the CP Panel? ----- Next the issue about publishing. I have the directory for the new domain already setup in my BV directory. So, the choice for "public_html" publishing will come up when I attempt to publish? ---- One more question. When creating my pages I created a template from my homepage. When I save the rest of the pages in the site, the extension .wwb is applied to them. Will this present a problem when I want to publish? Thanks |

You can set up the addon anytime you want. Yes, when you publish with BV, it will default to the public_html directory. To publish to your new domain, simply add /new_domain (substituting the actual domain name, of course) after public_html and the files will go where you want them to go. Don't worry about what the file extensions look like on your pc, they should display fine once published.
