Thread: Forward Domain to VH Server

Hello Everyone,

Okay, I need to redirect my old domain name (www.ReptilicusReptiles.net) to my new Voda Host site (www.SpectacularCarpetPythons.com).

I called Register.com and told them to point my ReptilicusReptiles.net domain to the VH servers. They went ahead and redirected my old site and said it would take 12-24hrs for the transfer to take effect, but it's already been longer than that and my site still doesn't work (SpectacularCarpetPythons.com works fine, but ReptilicusReptiles.net doesn't). Is there something else I have to do to make this work?

I was getting an Error message (404 I think), but I just went into my Cpannel and did an addon for reptilicusreptiles.net. Now I get an Index page? What am I doing wrong? Am I getting closer?

So it is my understanding you will merely be using the domain name as a redirect to your new domain name and site ...

If this is the case, you must publish up a blank page as index to this site now

Then you will go into control panel and do a redirect - redirect this domain to your new domain ...

I would like the old domain (reptilicusreptiles.net) to just go *directly to my new site as if it were my main webaddress. I don't want a page to come up that says "Please wait while we direct you to the new site" or anything like that. Do I need to do a name transfer to VH instead of redirecting my old domain?

Hi, this won't happen .. the browser will do the redirect without anyone knowing ... you do not need to transfer your domain for this to happen - you can however, transfer your domain to voda host at any time for renewal, etc., If anyone looks, they will notice the address difference in the address bar but not to worry about that.

Okay, I published a blank page to "reptilicusreptiles.net." How do I do a redirect in Cpannel?

Ok you can do this in the htaccess with NO page showing up..

Download your htaccess file, open in notepad and type in

Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.example.com/newpage.html
and you can also add the
Redirect 301 / http://example.com/
line also just to make sure you are getting all versions of it to the right page.

Oh and i forgot, if you can get your old registrar to PARK and POINT you dont need the redirection at all. It will be done on the name server itself.

There is a redirect icon in your control panel, it is pretty easy from there ..

Well, I tried going into Cpannel and redirecting the reptilicusreptiles.net to the new site but it didn't work. For now I just placed my logo and a "Click here to enter Reptilicus Reptiles" link on the blank index page. It's better than nothing I guess.

Hi ... here is a link showing you how this can be done, perhaps this might help you better as I notice you do not have what you want done yet .. You can use this script if your redirect is not working for you in your control panel ..

Remember, just publish up a BLANK page in place of the one you now have saying ENTER HERE - rename the blank page index and publish to the same directory as the other ..
