Thread: I am SOOO Close need a little help...

Well I originally paid for a domain through Google apps and I am in the process of transferring that to Voda, I have full access to the domain settings including redirect I am just having a heck of a time figuring out what the address is to "redirect to".
I currently have...
ns1.voda20.com/home/nqdafag/public_html/index.html
(nqdafag is my login name)

This doesn't seem to work...(I know some of you are laughing out there) anyways, my "actual" web address is http://www.nvinspectors.com

If anyone can help me crack the code that would be awesome.

If you are on Voda 20 then you redirect your domain to

ns1.voda20.com and ns2.voda20.com

Ok, I did that and it comes up with something that looks like an FTP site

"Index of/"
"Parent directory"
"Cgi bin"

I have to be getting close...

Please be sure to view the tutorials in regards to naming, saving and publishing your pages .. they are most useful ...

once you publish your first page as index you will be fine ..

You haven't done this correctly. You have repointed your domain to the server. You need to repoint your domain settings to the server addresses, given above. If you are unsure how to do this you should not try and attempt this yourself. You need to contact your domain registrant and ask them to do this for you.

This is always a problem when people decide to purchase a domain and then have them transferred over. You are always recommended to leave your domain name wherever you purchased it from and then just change your server details as required.

I have published my index page according to the tutorials (lowercase, no spaces...)
When I go into my CPanel I can see that it actually uploaded to my /public_html directory as an .html file
When I click to "View" the index page it just comes up as HTML but I guess it's suppose to do that.
I still just get "redirected" to the FTP looking site page when I type in my domain name www.nvinspectors.com.
Under my Domain setting for redirect at google I have:
ns1.voda20.com/ and ns2.voda20.com/ but it seems like I should have something else at the end of these two. Something that identifies MY website, and index file, my login or something...any ideas?

try publishing this index page again, perhaps it was just taking time for the server names to propogate .. looks like you are ready for this index page to be published ...

Marincky, transferring a domain to voda host can be a smooth process and is not without recommendation of doing so ..

Transferring a domain to voda host as opposed to pointing your domain requires just another process.

It still sends me directly to http://ns1.voda20.com/
in the address bar (and it looks like an FTP site) but not to my site.
I just want to believe that in the redirect address (http://ns1.voda20.com/) I need to put something more specific to get it going to MY index page.

It doesn't appear that the name servers have been changed in your domain account ..

where did you make this change to the name servers???

Your account with VH is ready ..

I am not doubting you have published your index correctly, but what you HAVE done incorrectly is repoint your domain. Go into your CP and totally remove the domain redirect. Then go to your domain registrar and either repoint the servers OR ask them to do it for you.

Holly, I am not saying you shouldn't necessarily move your domain to VH, and to the likes of you and I this is an easy process. However there are many times when I see people trying to do this and not going about it the right way, not through any fault of their current registra or VH, but just because people have no experience of moving domains and so I am just trying to point out to them that it is not a requirement to do so as some are led to believe and that there are other options. Sorry for any confusion. : - )

I made the changes at the Google apps end under

"To change Advanced DNS settings, sign in to your DNS console
with the following information :

Domain : xxxxxxxx
Password xxxxxxxx
eNom customer service email : xxxxxxxx

Once there I went to DNS settings and typed in ns1.voda20.com

Sign in to DNS console


I put a trouble call in to just move my domain over if all else fails.

It's actually almost easier for the client to request a transfer, voda host does everything, the issues occur if the user doesn't respond to the transfer request email within a certain period of time, not checking their mail, not responding to allow voda host to do the transfer - I've seen this done by voda host in a matter of minutes once the email has been replied to ... so it actually saves the user from doing things. Another issue is for the user to actually realize the difference between a transfer or simply repointing your domain to voda servers ..

You will need to type both servers names in there - the two of them ..

If you have done this, sometimes changing these servers unfortunately can take a bit of time to propogate .. usually I see this instantly, however this may not be the case with your domain registrar ..

lol .. you will get it, but make sure you have used both of your name servers in this area ...
